Socially Excluded Means Being Excluded From Society, Or Parts Of Society, As A Result Of One Of More Of The Following Factors: Unemployment; Financial Hardship; Youth Or Old Age; Ill Health (Physical Or Mental); Substance Abuse Or Dependency Including Alcohol And Drugs; Discrimination On The Grounds Of Sex, Race, Disability, Ethnic Origin, Religion, Belief, Creed, Sexual Orientation Or Gender Re-Assignment; Poor Educational Or Skills Attainment; Relationship And Family Breakdown; Poor Housing (That Is Housing That Does Not Meet Basic Habitable Standards; Crime (Either As A Victim Of Crime Or As An Offender Rehabilitating Into Society). ## **Annual Report** In 2020 we: Delivered 19 live creative sessions with 55 participants Delivered 30 creative zoom sessions with over 90 participants Made 14 short films with digital audiences of over 20,000 Created and managed a Facebook Group with over 800 contributors Offered weekly creative support to 20 Artists in Recovery Provided paid freelance work to 9 artists in Recovery Page 2 ## **Small Performance Adventures** ## **Trustees' Report for the period ended 31 December 2020** ## **Annual Report… cont** Created and developed a network of recovery arts organisations for International Overdose Awareness Day with our work featured in Annual Reports of International Overdose Awareness Day and Sussex Community Foundation Delivered 1 live performance event with a socially distanced audience of 25 Had our work featured in a research study by Manchester University on creativity in the pandemic. ## **Overview of the year** Between January and March we fundraised and planned with six artists in recovery for our new project Terminal Uniqueness which included live planning sessions in Brighton and Plymouth. With We are Not Saints we visited Manchester and Plymouth to plan for a live event on Overdose Awareness Day in August. Kate, Our artistic director travelled to New York in February to continue her training in social therapeutics with The East Side International Institute and continued to build international partnerships. In February we also delivered a workshop for students at Kingston University on our 2019 project “The Washing Up” In March we were successful in getting Arts Council Funding for our Terminal Uniqueness and then almost immediately had to radically adapted our delivery plans. On March 19th we created an interactive Facebook group which grew to 800 members internationally. This group became a focal point for a longer programme of work offering creative opportunities and support for people in recovery. We worked in partnership with TiPP, We are Not Saints and Edit Sweet to deliver this work, edit video and offer creative support to participants. This project culminated in a series of paid artistic commissions shared in Facebook watch parties in May and July working closely with twenty- two participants to create 38 individual pieces of work shown in seven twenty minute shows. In May we began regular creative weekly zooms which remained part of our creative offer through 2020. Between March and September small performance adventures led in creating a national digital project for International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31 . This involved working closely with Edit Sweet and We are Not Saints and developing partnerships with recovery arts organsiations to reimagine what would have been a live event. We created four short films with participants from small performance adventures, Outside Edge, Theatre Royal Plymouth and Bristol Drugs Project. These films were created through a series of zoom creative sessions led by spa with a combination of phone videos and live filming, all beautifully edited by Annie Murray of Edit Sweet. The films were shown throughout International Overdose Awareness Day through social media nationally and reached audiences of over 10,000. Page 3 ## **Small Performance Adventures** Between September and December we began to offer live sessions for small groups of up to 8 to access live provision and worked to create a series of short films about terminal uniqueness created in partnership with Annie of Edit Sweet. Our year culminated with a live socially distanced performance for an audience of 25 people where we showcased our 2020 work. Throughout the year we continued to work closely with Edit Sweet and We are Not Saints and our plans for 2020 include finding office space together. Plans for 2021 include developing our programme of creative support, taking Terminal Uniqueness live and including more organisations in Overdose Awareness day. ## **Finance and Funding** We had successful bids in January from The Chalk Cliff Trust £3850 and The Arts Council England £17,700 both towards our programme of work Terminal Uniqueness working with artists in recovery to explore improving our mental health collectively. In June Brighton and Hove City Council gave us £4000 and The National Lottery Community Foundation £9625 to support our developing programme of creative mental health support delivered digitally and through phone support for people in mental health and addiction recovery in Brighton Through the year we also received a private donation of £1000 and a contribution of £500 towards costs from The Woodward Charitable Trust. We also earned income for project delivery for International Overdose Awareness Day from Theatre Royal Plymouth, Outside Edge Theatre Company and Bristol Drugs Project, and workshop delivery on “The Washing up” at Kingston University. This report is made solely to the Board of Trustees' of Small Performance Adventures. Our work has been undertaken solely to prepare for your approval the accounts of Small Performance Adventures. It is your duty to ensure that Small Performance Adventures has kept adequate accounting records and to prepare statutory accounts that give a true and fair view of the assets, liabilities, financial position and profit of Small Performance Adventures. You consider that Small Performance Adventures is exempt from the statutory audit requirement for the period. We have not been instructed to carry out an audit or a review of the accounts of Small Performance Adventures. The registered office is Room 5, Brighton Youth Centre, 64 Edward Street, Brighton, BN2 0JR ## **2 Compliance with accounting standards** The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of FRS 102 Section 1A Small Entities. There were no material departures from that standard ## **3 Accounting policies** The principal accounting policies adopted in the preparation of the financial statements are set out below and have remained unchanged from the previous year, and also have been consistently applied within the same accounts. ## **Basis of preparation** The accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention as modified by the revaluation of certain fixed assets. ## _**Presentation currency**_ The accounts are presented in £ sterling. ## **Tangible fixed assets and depreciation** Tangible assets are included at cost less depreciation and impairment.
