Recommended Practice- Accounting and Report by Charities leffeclive from January 20191.
Objectives and Activities
The objective of the charity is to Iidvance the education of children aged 3-12 in LIy5wen and its
surrounding areas and lo provide Ihe necessary Idcililies for their daily care, recreation and
education during out ol school hours and school holi(lays by providing a nursery and after school
club for the public benefit.
Tg achieve this objective the charity undertakes the following activiiies..
Provision of wrap-around I holiday childtare for pre-school and primary xhool children
aged 3-12.
The trust?es have made decision5 regarding Ihesc acl vitie5 Wlth regard to our charitable purpose
and the gu idance issued by the Charity Comrnission on public benelif.
Achievements and Performance
Many thanks to the staff and committee lor their hard work and continued dedication and
commitment to the club during 2023, particularly our new Play Leader who took on the role in
july.
The slart 012023 was quiei for the chcirity providing Club provision with vp to 16 children per
day during lerm-time. Numbers 11)creased from April to December with up to 20 children por
day.
The re-registration process was started with Care Inspettorate Wales in March and successfully
Otnpleted on the 25, july. This èllowed us to re-open the holiday club for the summer and
October half.term with up to 32 children per dav.

Staffing has continued to be a challenge, due to bping unable to find 5Ultably qualified
candidates for illness cover in all positions. No new staff were recruited in 2023. Two staff
undertook training in Playwork level 3, which will increase our flexibility in terms of holiday club
Staff ing. The aim is lo do a new recruitment drive in 20?4 lor both club and holiday club.
Lack of sufficieT)t qualified staff. particularly for the Nursery Leader. resulted in the permanent
closure of the nursery and the need io make one membp.r of staff reéun(lant in Augu512023.
Trustees and staff worked hard lo arrange several fundraising events in 2023. This included
bingo, a quiz and a movie night. Many thanks to the staff lor their support. All these events
proved very popular, and the charity plans to repeat Ihese in 2024.
Wages continue to be done by an accountancy firm and the pension scheme tontinue5 Wlth
NEST.
Financial Review
The charity's principal source of funding remain5 lees charged for the provision of childcare
services. Total income for 2023 Wds £40,552 of which after-school club fees were £20,052 and
holiday club fees werp £1 J.101. Fees ivere reviewod In March an(J increased from I, April due to
increases in the National Minimum Waee and a significant increase in holiday club renl.
The. existing treasurer notified the. elub of their intention to rL'sign in March and a new treasurer
was appoinlerj. Due to eilficultie5 in adding %ignatories to the existing bank accounts, new bank
accounts were opened at the end of May.
As predicted in the 2022 annual report, it was necessary to make the member of slaff on
maternity leave redundant upon their return to work. Due to their length ol service, the actual
notice and redundancy pay were con51derably higher that Ihe £7,000 placed in reserve in 2022.
The charity took out a £15.OC(J loan Irom Development Bank Wales to cover these costs. Due to
holiday club fpes and the recovery ol £1,981 Irom an old savings account. it was possible to repay
E4,000 in December and the remainder of the loan will be paid in instalmenls over the next 4
year5.
Efforts were mode in 2023 to recover outstanding fee5 Jnd reduce non-payment of invoices by
sending regular reminder5. Outstanding fees at the end of 2023 were £7,620. The aim for 2024 is
to continuÈ to reduce this figure.

The charity ran several fundr3isers and raised a total of £1,541.39. Part was spent on staff
training and part will be spent in 2024 on relurbishing the tricycles and purchasing new
equipment.
Following the decision to close the nursery in Mdv, efforts were made to sell as muth of the
nursery equipment as possible. This raised £1,704 and allowed the charity to clear its outstanding
liability for nursery rent.
Overall, it ha5 been a challenBing year for the charitrfs finances. It 15 hoped that the finances will
be more stable in 2024.
Structure, Governance and Management
The charity was governed as a Charitable Incorporated Organisalion ICIOI in accoréance with its
constitution.
Membership of the CIO is open to anyone who is interested in luilhering its purposes. and who,
by applying for membership, has indicated his, her or Its agreement to bccome member and
acceptance of the duty of members to exercise his or her POWQfS as a member of the CIO in the
way he or she decides in good lailh would be fflost likely to luriher (he purpose5 of the. CIO.
Trustoe5 are ele¢ted at the annual general meeting or may bp appointed at any time either to
replace a Irustee who has relired QT 445 an additional trustee. When an existing trustee ceases to
hold office, a new momber will be elected to the offic? by a majority vote either at the annual
general meeting or a Beneral meeting if the resiEnaiion/removal occurs part way through the
vear.
