**WELLESBOURNE VILLAGE HALL School Road, Wellesbourne CV35 9NH**

**Charity No. 1186857**

## **Annual Report of the Trustees for the year ended 31.12.2025**

The Village Hall is managed by a board of 8 trustees which includes a Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary and Booking Secretary. One part-time cleaner is employed. The purpose of the charity is to manage a meeting place for the community of Wellesbourne and Walton, and surrounding villages. The premises are a former school which is over 160 years old, and it has been a village hall for 61 years. The trustees have the hall on a full repairing sublease from the Parish Council. The board is entirely dependent on the income from lettings to pay for the repair and maintenance of the building. The Parish Council awards occasional grants for specific projects. Much of the work of maintaining the building is carried out by the trustees who are all volunteers recruited from the local community.

The Trustees met four times during the year. There have been no changes of staff or trustees.

During the year, income from all sources totalled £18,167.82, some £1,400 less than the previous year. This is due to slightly lower hire charges and there were no donations received in 2025 **.** Expenditure in 2026 totalled £14,005.55 which is less than 2025 despite a large increase in insurance costs. There was little refurbishment carried out during the year and no equipment was purchased. At the end of the year the Trustees had an unrestricted reserve fund of £12,805.25; £4,000 more than 2025.

There are no restricted funds

The hall has again been subject to flooding from the adjoining car park. The landlords, the Parish Council, are proposing to pay for new rear doors which would hold back surplus water in time of heavy rain. These doors will be especially designed to fit the space and to act as an emergency exit, as well as being used as the wheelchair access to the hall. It is hoped work will start on these doors in August 2026. There has been no progress on the roof and fascia repairs, and the end wall of the hall continues to suffer from damp.

Bookings for the hall improved during the year.

Broadband was installed for users of the hall in April 2025.

In March 2025, the landlords, Walton and Wellesbourne Parish Council, offered an 18-month lease, to terminate at the end of July 2026. After that date the Parish Council intends to manage the hall itself, and the Board of Trustees will no longer be needed. However, the contract for Broadband which expires in April 2027, cannot be taken over by the Parish Council, so the trustees will remain in existence until at least that time. In the meantime, the Management Committee is working with the new Community Manager, appointed by the Parish Council, to ensure a smooth handover of the hall.

As the Parish Council intend to run the hall for the benefit of the local community in the same way as before, the Management Committee has agreed to hand over all the contents of the hall to them. A decision on the disposal of any surplus funds will not be made until all financial transactions arising from running the hall have been completed, sometime in 2027. The decision will then be taken to close the charity.
