The two club affiliates include Adur Sailing Club, an RYA Trainin8 Centre, and the 35 Lancing Sea Scouts. Both are vital contributors tu the Club's success. ASC is a voluntary run club which provide5 a formal pathway to vouth sailors wishing to follow RYA dinghy sailing trdining stages 14. Both affiliate5 make good use of the excellent facilities to provide a range of healthy, community-based activr<ies. During the year, members of both clubs have sailed together and enable further stope for working together. The West Sussex Sthools and Youth Sailing Association Regatta is pro8r3mmed for September 2024 at our club and will provlde a major opportunity to supwrt youth development in the community.
The club has been artlve throughout the Summer months with its sailing programme, open events. training activit5 and other events. The club arranges regular organised racing on 3 sunday and Wednesday evening together with open events. Whi15t a number of the 54 sessions organised over the 3T were cancelled due to poor weather Condition5, the dub was still able to 8enerate strong particlpation. EXptnaL weather conditions have 5adty meant a number of club events were unable to take pla-thIS impacted gUlar community 5e&4ions such as Women on Water. Improvers and specific open events. Despite this. the club did sueSsfUlly run both Women on Water and Improver sessions. Both provide an excellent opportunity for members and visitors to increase their boat handlin8 confidence outside of racing and with safety cover. Wtth Women on Water, four sessions on a Friday evening were held and well attended. The social aspect of these sessitins proved to be ever 50 populai, with the BBOs and bar being well attended Idesplte sailing bein8 cancelled due to the poor weather, the BBQ went ahead and was a great success). The Improver programme scheduled 14 Saturday sessions between March and Ortober including the four end of season Brownleaf Cup races held over two days in September. The improver events have proven in(351n8ty popular, with new members and prospective rnembers from the local community continuin£ to Sign up and join as members throughout September. We continue to attract young families and develop the skills of the new members. We seek to support our members undertake rescue boat trainin& first aid trainin& and other related skilLs to ensure the clLsb's sustainabilty. It has been an eventFul year for the travelling youth ILCA sallor5 mixlng exams With impressive results In both the 4 & 6 rigs at a number of international events. One member finished a5 2nd U19 female and has Just secured a place in the RYA Youth Perforrnance Squad. The Junior sailors in the Topper fleet have been travelling throughout the UK and Ireland by taking part in the Traveller and Natiofjal series of ILCA. getting some excellent reyjlts in venues across London. the South East and further arId. Th included the Shoreham Open which was attended by nearly 40 boats revelllng in the Sunshine and near perfect sailing conditions. One of our members was selected for the ITCA National Training Squad while two othets are joining the RYA London and South East Regional Training Group. Ourlng the course of the year. the club continues to work with Shoreham Port to document the grft of land which is expected to happen after remedial works to the revetments bordering the club that will be rertaken by the EDwronment Agency in Autumn 2024. The legal process to document the new boundary is delayed due to thi5 further work being planned to improve the revetments bordering the club property. The EA will fund all legals expenses a550ciated with this.
