The club has continued to attract new members across all categories
throughout
2022
with c.31new memberships in the current year.
During the course ofthe year. the club has secured the lease for the
property
in the name ofthe charity.
It continues to work with the Port to
document
the gift of land which is expected to happen
during the course
ofnext year.
The club has run "women on water" sessions which provide
an
opportunity
for female members
and visitors to increase their boat
handling
confidence outside ofracing and with safety cover. These were
well attended;
over 4sessions were run with over 43 members
and
prospective
members
attending.
We continue to drive greater community
participation
in sailing and have
invested
significantly
in the Improver
programme
which provides free club
boats to members
and prospective
members for taster sessions on
selected Saturdays. The recent investment
was with the support ofthe
Eric Twiname
Trust (who part funded the two new RSTeras which are
available for Juniors), and former member
Paul Wilcock whose estate
provided
a generous
gift to help fund the new improver
safety boat which
has been given his childhood
nickname,
"Smee".
The Improver
programme
scheduled 11Saturday sessions between
March
and October plus the four end ofseason Brownleaf Cup races held over
two days in October.
The improver
events have proven
popular,
with new
members
and prospective
members
from the local community
continuing
to sign up in September.
At times 3 rescue boats were deployed
enabling
the club to launch over 12dinghies to the circa 34 individuals
that have
been participating
in the sessions.
We held a number ofnational
and regional
level sailing regattas
during
the year which attracted visitors from across the UK. These high-level
events help raise the profile ofthe club and bring visitors to the local area
to the benefit ofnot just ourselves
and the participants,
but financially to
local businesses.
Throughout
the year we ran junior specific training
days targeting
high
level performers
and those starting out.
The core activity ofregular organised
sailing proved successful
and
enabled the development
ofboth the young and the young at heart.
Providing
a safe environment
to enjoy the open air and allow access to
some ofthe best sailing waters
in the south of England.
We have been attracting
many returning
sailors who have taken a
sabbatical from the sport and are now bringing
their families back with
them.
