Achievements and Performance

|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | Like the previous year, the 2020/2021 school year has been seriously compromised by the COVID 19 Pandemic. GAPA was able to reopen on 25/09/2020 operating under Covid Secure conditions, but was forced to move classes online from 05/11/2020 classes had to move online for the 2nd full lockdown.Covid lockdown hasn’t prevented our GAPA pupils from being successful in gaining places at their first choice professional dance colleges. Thanks to Zoom and video auditioning our Head Girl Maddie Wrigley and Head Boy Bailey Johnson were offered places at Bird College. Tilly Greenwood, our Bush Davies Ballet Scholarship winner of 2020 has accepted her place at Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Despite covid restrictions, and by adhering to strict social distancing and covid safety protocols, we still managed to stage GAPA Creates choreography competition, at the King Edward Hall Lindfield on June 26th. Parents were unable to attend but pupils cheered each other on as solos, duets, trios, and groups were performed, and prizes were awarded by our adjudicators Phil Gardner and Natalie Ayton (former members of Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures). On July 27th GAPA held its annual prizegiving ceremony at the King Edward Hall Lindfield, where medals were presented to those who had achieved great progress over the last year, in spite of the circumstances of the pandemic. A new group of prefects was announced, and a new head girl, Eve Lewis, was appointed. Eve was presented with the shield from outgoing Head Boy Bailey Johnson, and outgoing Head Girl Maddie Wrigley, both of whom are progressing |
onto the renowned Bird College in September. Gielgudian medals were also awarded to Tilliana Greenwood who goes to the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in September, and Abbie Mordecai who is going to IC Theatre, Brighton. 16 – 18[th] of August was our Summer School at our former home the Hub Theatre, Haywards Heath College, with classes by guest teachers that included Eliska Bouzkova (Vienna Festival Ballet), Natalie Ayton (Matthew Bourne/Phoenix), Isaac Edwards (Starlight Express/Bat out of Hell) and Damien Delaney (Cats/Billy Elliot). It was so exciting to be back dancing at the Hub (Haywards Heath College) where we look forward to returning in September.
