## **ANNUAL REPORT 2022**
On behalf of the Trustees, I am pleased to present the King Arthurs Way Community Association annual report, January to December 2022. King Arthurs Way Community Association (KAWCA) is a registered as a charity with the Charity Commission, Charity No. 1123358. The charity operates as a charitable incorporated organisation C.I.O. company number CE019877.
## **KAWCA Trustees for the year.**

## **The Objects of the C.I.O. are to**
1) To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the King Arthurs Way Estate and the neighbourhood together defined by the map attached, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, nationality, age, disability, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together the said inhabitants and the statutory authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants;
2) The trustees shall have the power to establish or to secure the establishment of a community centre (hereinafter called the 'centre’) and to maintain and manage the same (whether alone or in cooperation with any statutory authority or other person or body) in furtherance of the above objects;
- 3) Such other charitable purposes as may from time to time be determined.
## **KAWCA Appointment of Trustees**
Trustees and honorary officers are elected at the AGM. The trustees shall retire from office at the end of the annual general meeting three years after his or her appointment and shall be eligible for re-election. Trustees can be co-opted by the existing Trustees during the year. In November Kelly Lynch was coopted as Secretary of the King Arthurs Way Community Association.
## **Public Benefit for the Year Jan 2022 to Dec 2022**
Thought-out the past year, the King Arthurs Way Community Association has worked with Andover Food Bank, being open five days a week, Monday to Friday for at least three hours a day as a collection point for food boxes. The need for food boxes remains high with 314 boxes collected from the hall during the past year. The hall was been used as a Walk-in Health Hub for Coronavirus COVID-19 vaccine and a Flu vaccine catch-ups with a total of 1630 people attending throughout the year. Andover Mind has also used the hall for monthly Well-Being Drop-In Sessions for people to discuss mental health issues. The hall has been hired for a variety of activities including coffee mornings, children’s parties, community events and local groups. During term time the hall runs the Andover Job Club. This enables free access to computers, information and advice on job searches, CV writing, interview skills and more. The footfall at the hall has increased from 4023 for last year 2021, to a total of 10,199 for 2022.

Hiring of the hall was taken up by many people from the Harrow Way Ward and surrounding area as well as the regular hirers that make up our core income. Our regular hirers include Catch22, Mental Well-Being Group, MissFit Bellydance, Oblivion Dance, Oblivion Baby Ballet, Tiny Tykes, Walk N Talk 4 Mental Health and Zoe Outreach Embassy. Users of the will have noticed that the main hall, meeting rooms and kitchen was repainted during July.
## **Note from Chair of Trustees**
I would like to thank my fellow charity trustees, staff and volunteers for the commitment and support they have given the King Arthurs Way Community Association during the past year. The charity is indebted to its staff, Verity our Community Manager who has been working for us for the past three years and Ros our Community Centre Assistant / Cleaner for over seven years.
The trustees and staff continue to develop and foster positive working relationships with Hampshire County Council, Test Valley Borough Council, NHS West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group, Unity, St Mary’s Church Andover and voluntary agencies, local councillors and businesses.
As a direct result of our working with the NHS West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group, Unity and St Mary’s Church Andover. This month sees the start of a Thrift Club and Comfort Café running on Wednesdays from 10am to 12noon. Then on most Fridays between 09:30 and 12noon there will be a Warm Hub coffee morning.
Last but not least we thank our TVBC Community Engagement Officers, Louisa Rice and Imogen Colley for their support and advice. On behalf of the trustees, we thank all our partners for their continued support and hope to continue to benefit from our association with them.
Although we operate from the King Arthurs Hall, a building owned by Test Valley Borough Council. The King Arthurs Way Community Association is a self-governing charity, independent of Test Valley Borough Council. As reported at previous AGMs, the Community Association and Test Valley Borough Council have been working towards agreeing a 25-year lease for the building. Progress has been made by both parties in agreeing terms of a lease. It was hoped that we would complete during the past year. However, there is some additional legal work being completed by the legal department of the Test Valley Borough Council seeking advice from external bodies. Looking at best practice elsewhere to ensure that the lease protocol we have is fair and robust. Each lease going forward is to be tailored to the community building it covers and with conditions, for both parties, included. It is still very much hoped that the lease agreement will be completed in the very near future.

## **Independent Examiners Report**
## **For the Year Ended 31[st] March 2022**
I have examined the financial statements prepared by King Arthurs Community Association Charity No 1186759
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
- examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
- to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of independent examiner's report**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
- (1) Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and
-
- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act
Have not been met; or
(2) To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
