Para 1.20 Due to the Covid pandemic
we have
been unable to arrange any outings for
lunches orafternoon teas this year and
all our efforts have been in dealing with
the many referrals to us ofpeople who
became very lonely due to the isolation
during
lock-down and the fear ofthe
pandemic.
We managed
to recruit
more volunteers
through
Radio
interviews,
Facebook, posters, etc.and
by the end ofthe year our volunteers
were telephoning
about 160people.
Our
charity has made adifference to the lives
ofmany lonely people, mainly
in the
Chorley and surrounding
area by
providing
a friend to keep in touch by
telephone
and helping, when
appropriate,
with shopping.
As we
could not have any outings,
with the
generosity ofAsda we were given boxes
ofchocolates or biscuits forasurprise
delivery to our befriended
people.
The
boxes were gift wrapped
and delivered
by our volunteers,
together with a
special card and bookmark
made by one
ofour trustees, to 160people and were
gratefully
received.
This year has been
the most challenging
year in our history
because ofthe pandemic,
lockdowns,
shielding
and the increased
isolation
forced upon everyone.
We have
accepted the challenge
and relieved so
many people from their loneliness.
We
have taken on 108new referrals and
recruited„ trained and nurtured
113new
volunteers.
Some ofthese volunteers
have subsequently
had to resign due to
having to return to work.
