Overview of Jan 2023 – Dec 2023
We started 2023 with Character studies on different people, good and bad, in the Gospels. This helped people realise that God works with all sorts of people, not just the perfect ones, and that he can use them too. This culminated with the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus and how Christ’s brother, James, came to faith in when he saw his resurrected brother, who he then referred to as Lord. Our exploration into the Psalms also helped people to see where our faith operates in highs and lows of daily life.
The church continue to support one another through informal networks and making good use of the church WhatsApp group for prayer and letting each other know what is going on as well as using tried and trusted methods such as home groups, home visits, email and telephone calls.
Elspeth has been has been joined by Steph and they are faithfully working in providing interesting Sunday school lessons for the children.
TFM Walk the Way – We are pleased to continue to develop the close links that we have with TFM as we serve God together witnessing to those who do not yet know Jesus as their saviour and support the local churches in their witness. Rob joined Dan in working as a chaplain at the Download Festival
Over the Christmas period some of the church went carol singing outside the homes of those members who are too ill to attend Sunday services as well as visit the Hay Wain who were thrilled to have along again to sing to their customers.
Worship on the Street is an outreach event that we continue to run a few times over the year. It was an opportunity to bless people with sweets and leaflets inviting people to specific church services such as the Carol Service and Easter. This also gave some of us the opportunity to pray for people and share the reasons why we believe in Jesus and the difference that he has made in our lives.
David and Karen Crisp continue to lead the worship team and we are looking into ways that the team can develop further including some training from New Wine.
There are two home groups running, one on a Thursday evening and the other on a Wednesday morning so as to cater for people who are available at different times. These are well attended and appreciated by everyone.
We were pleased to be able to have a church weekend this November with Andy and Rosie leading the services and Bethan running the children’s work. We looked at the manifesto of Christ and what he would have us to do in his power.
We continue to thank God for all that He continues to do among us, His faithfulness to us and for moving among us, also for the growth in the church, both spiritually and numerically.
