## **Overview of Jan 2019 – Dec 2020**

Many of the planned events were interrupted by Covid19 and the lockdowns that effected churches as well. There was a steep learning curve as we discovered, like many others, that Zoom was the platform favoured by us in that as well as people being able to hear the message and worship we were able to engage with each other after the main service and maintain something of the important aspect of fellowship. Jeff and Gill handed over the leadership of the worship team to Karen and David Crisp, who then rose up to the challenge of producing live worship on Zoom dealing with technicalities such as the sound buffering and other technical issues which they managed to resolve.

It has been encouraging to see members supporting each other through informal networks and making good use of the church WhatsApp group for prayer and letting each other know what is going on as well as using tried and trusted methods such as email and telephone calls.

Gill supported Jeff in his role as treasurer with Kathy Ray managing the pay roll and helping the church with the pension regulations, etc. In the end of May 2020 the role of treasurer was handed over to Kathy with David Crisp and Ann Hannan dealing with some of the practical aspects such as depositing cheques, etc.

The Church Council continued their hard work with the Charity Commission so that SICF would become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and we finally received our certificate in saying that we became a CIO on 29[th] November 2019, so this is the first Annual of SICF as a CIO.

We want to say a big thank you to Jeff and Gill for their help in leading the worship team as well as taking on the role of treasurer and working with the Church Council in the transition of SICF from a charitable trust to a CIO. Also, a big thank you to everyone on the Church Council for their perseverance on this matter.

We started 2019 looking at Christ commissioning his people to tell the world the Good News of how Jesus came to bring forgiveness from where we have gone wrong and to give us a new life with him. We also looked at how we can be confident in the Bible as the word of God, in the Godhead in our future as Christians and our identity in Jesus Christ. To help people in their praying, especially during our “Up Events” which are focussed on prayer and worship we looked at “Praying the Bible”, the prayers of the apostles, Psalms and the prophets, followed by the work of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament, the New Testament and in our lives today. From September to December we looked at how people like Elijah, Elisha and John the Baptist were people just like us who God used in a great way and that he can do the same with us!

2020 saw us exploring the book of Revelation looking at God’s acceptance of our praise and worship as our worship and prayers mingle join with those already in heaven: keeping faithful to God through hardship and our future hope of enjoying the presence of God either when we pass away or when Christ returns. We then explored the nature of God and attributes of God, how he has made himself known to us through his word, the Bible, his Son, Jesus Christ and though the Holy Spirit. From this we were able to look at the human race as being created in the image of God but and looked at the problem of suffering.

In January 2019 we were saddened by the news that Bernard Thompson had passed away while on holiday. He had given so much help and spiritual guidance to the leadership team and SICF. We continue to uphold his wife, Chris, and family in prayer.

The men’s breakfast meetings continued before “lockdown” with a format varying from debates between Christian and atheist leaders and people sharing their own stories of what God has done in their lives. The women have also had breakfasts where the focus has been on prayer and a retreat day for prayer and reflection.

Jason and Karen Street continue working with Rev Sheila Anthony as New Wine leaders Network reps for the Cambridgeshire region, activities have included arranging meetings for church leaders and their congregations from Cambridgeshire.

We had a great time of teaching, fellowship and worshiping God over the church weekend with Andrew Whitman speaking on the “God of Compassion” Andrew encouraged us Telling us about the compassion that the Father has for us, the compassion of Christ for the lost, How the holy Spirit gives us the such compassion for others and seeing ourselves as Christ sees us.

Our local outreach events included the Market stall, which moved from the outdoor to the indoor market; the toddler group and Messy Church where many families come along be engaged in crafts and hear the good news of what Jesus has done for us. Leading up to Christmas we decided to bless the community with little gifts of brioche – called blessings with brioches – and gave out leaflets reminding people of the message of Christmas.

Jason had been working with Sheila Anthony and TFM (Through Faith Mission) in preparing an evangelistic mission that spans a 10 mile radius from Bluntisham, Cambridgeshire that involved eight to ten churches starting at Pentecost 2020. Lockdown had eased enabling us to have a small team

working with us from TFM plus a group of people from SICF. Although there was an easing of lockdown there were still severe restrictions meaning that we could not host the team in St Ives, providing meals and accommodation. This meant that Kevin, Sidney and Judy had to travel in on certain days and social distance, etc. had to be maintained. However, as we prayer walked round the periphery of St Ives, in the town centre and along many of the streets we had opportunities to tell people about the love of God for them.

We continue to thank God for all that He continues to do among us, His faithfulness to us and for moving among us, also for technology that has enabled us to keep together in spite of national lockdowns in the fight against the coronavirus.

Jason Street (Chairman of the Trustees)
