## **General information**
The Trustees present their annual report and the accounts of Leicester MusicFest for the year ended 5 April 2021.
Leicester MusicFest is a charitable incorporated organisation registered in England and Wales, and governed by a written constitution. Leicester MusicFest was founded in 2016 and obtained registered charity status on 28 November 2019. Its registered charity number is 1186629.
The principal address of Leicester MusicFest is 1 Eastwood Road, Leicester LE2 8DD.

The Trustees confirm that they have had due regard to the public benefit guidance issued by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
## **Trustees members and remuneration**
New Trustees are appointed by the existing Trustees at an Annual General Meeting.
The Trustees during the year ended 5 April 2021 and at the date of signing of this report were:

None of the Trustees nor persons connected with them received any remuneration or other benefits from Leicester MusicFest during the year under review.

## **Objectives**
Leicester MusicFest has the following objectives:
- To help young people access inspiring music-making and education;
- To nurture emerging talent, and to provide a supportive atmosphere in which all musicians can enjoy performing;
- To widen access to music by organising inspiring professional performances with free or subsidised tickets;
- To provide a performance platform for amateur musicians at all stages of their musical journey, particularly where performance opportunities are otherwise limited;
- To foster a culture of musical discovery and co-operation by running a wide variety of events within a single festival; and
- To encourage sharing of ideas and resources, bringing together the local musical community.
## **Review of the year**
The fifth festival was held online in February 2021 in incredibly difficult circumstances and included the following events:
- Piano, Pipe Organ, Singing, Classical Guitar and Composition Competitions;
- Pre-recorded winners' Gala Concert posted online and premiered on YouTube
- Vocal Masterclass via Zoom with Robert Rice;
- Alexander Technique Workshops delivered via Zoom;
- Advanced Guitar Award (G5) Cash Prize;
- Piano masterclass via zoom with Jonty Nowell
The trustees were delighted by the level of support for this fifth festival under incredibly challenging circumstances. With over 100 competitors, and dozens more attending virtual workshops and masterclasses, viewers from across the globe were able to enjoy an incredibly high standard of music-making across all ages and abilities including the grand finale of the Gala Concert, showcasing the winners of several competitions before a song recital given by Tim Morgan recorded for us from Berlin.

## **Future events**
Leicester MusicFest 2022 will take place between 12 and 13 February 2022, happily returning to the wonderful facilities at English Martyrs' Catholic School.
Depending on restrictions posed by COVID-19, the Trustees are planning alternative festival scenarios including:
- a) Fully face-to-face festival at English Martyrs’ (as per the last four years);
- b) Socially distanced and partially live streamed/broadcast festival from multiple venues; or
- c) Entirely online presence (including pre-recorded competition entries, workshops/masterclasses).
## **Reserves policy**
The policy of the Trustees is to maintain sufficient reserves to provide working capital for future events and to meet any expenses as they fall due.
## **Risk management**
The Trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed and are satisfied that systems are in place to mitigate these risks.
## **Patronage and Support**
The Trustees are grateful for the support of Patrons, Friends, Donors and Volunteers without which the festival could not take place.
