RWB Environment Trust Annual Report for period 1st April 2023 to 31 March 2024
The charity’s Community Nature Reserve continues to thrive thanks to a dedicated group of regular volunteers and a grant received from Wiltshire Council for the purchase of further trees and additional maintenance equipment for the site.
We have developed a strong, collaborative relationship with Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council that has enabled the development and adoption of a “Climate & Environmental Policy” that now guides the council’s operations. Plans for more trees and for areas of wildflowers & longer grasses, to help combat climate change and improve diversity, in all the town’s parks were agreed with the council. These plans are now being implemented with our volunteers working alongside council staff to plant free whips (small trees) from the Woodland Trust and larger specimens donated by local residents as part of a “Gift A Tree” scheme and grass mowing regimes have been changed.
We have continued to develop plans for routes for cycling and wheeling within Royal Wootton Bassett to encourage more active travel and help reduce carbon emissions. Our applications for grants have been approved for key elements of two of these routes but we are awaiting detailed design approval from Wiltshire Council before we can progress to the next stage.
RWB Environment Trust is now well established in the town as a recognised source of expertise and supporter of environmental initiatives. We enjoy the support of community leaders such as the Mayor & councillors and our members frequently assist and advise a wide range of topics such as the development of community green spaces, ecological diversity, energy efficiency and sustainability.
