After a pause of two years due to Covid, in the last year we have been able to take a team from the UK and deliver the annual medical camps all across Bangladesh. This was the biggest and most successful free medical camp tour so far with more camps held and more patients seen than ever before. We have also been able to complete our cataract project. This has been an amazing project in which 1542 patients had life changing cataract surgery. We have continued our monthly clinics in Mohammadpur, Thakurgaon and Moulvibazar. These clinics help poor and needy people in those localities have regular access to free medical care. The great work that we do is only possible through the generosity of our donors and the hard work of our team of volunteers. As ever we are eternally grateful to each and every one of our supporters, donors and volunteers. A special thank you also to the brothers from H&K Cycle Club whose fundraising has made the cataract project possible. ## Dr Kowsar Hoque Chair, International Health Development Foundation 03 **Trustees Report** The Trustees of International Health Development Foundation present their Annual Report and Financial Statement for the period from 1st February 2023 to 31st January 2024. The Trustees confirm that the Annual Report and Financial Statements of the charity comply with the current statutory requirements, the requirements of the charity’s governing document and the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) “Accounting and Reporting by Charities” applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 01 January 2015). 04 **Structure, Governance and Management** ## **Governing Constitution** ## **Organisational Structure** International Health Development Foundation is a charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. The charity was established by Constitution and registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 26th November 2019, under registration number 1186601. It is governed by a constitution adopted on 24th November 2019. It was originally registered with the name BHDI (Bangladesh Health Development Initiative). The trustees are responsible for the governance of the charity and the day-to-day management is performed by the executive committee which consists of the trustees and volunteer executive management committee members. All trustees, executive committee team members and volunteers give their time voluntarily and receive no renumeration or other benefits. The executive committee meet regularly and are responsible for the decisions taken in relation to running the charity. ## **Risk Management** ## **Volunteers** The trustees and executive committee have assessed the risks the charity faces and the nature of those risks. The trustees review risks regularly and strengthen their perspective on these issues through meetings. The trustees and executive committee are satisfied that systems are in place, or arrangements are in hand to manage the risks that Volunteers are involved and are a crucial part of all our charity projects and meet regularly in team meetings. ## **Our Values:** 06 ## **Achievements and Performance in 2023** We raised a total of £37,165. Our monthly clinic project continued in the three different locations across Bangladesh. The medical camp tour returned in 2023 and we were able to deliver free medical camps in five different locations across Bangladesh. 07 ## **Free Local Regular Monthly Clinics** - Our monthly clinics in Moulvibazar (Sylhet), Mohammadpur (Dhaka) and Thakurgaon have continued to run. - Every month 70-100 patients are seen in each clinic. All patients are seen free of charge and medication is also provided for free. - Patients are assessed and treated each month by a team of 4 doctors and health professionals – this includes specialists in General Medicine, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Optometry and Elderly Medicine. 08 ## **Emergency Medical Camps for Floods** We spent £2000 in providing emergency medical camps in the areas worst affected by the floods in Chittagong. Food packs were also distributed in those areas 09 ## **Cataract Surgery** H&K Cycle Club raised £63,675 for our cataract surgery project. With Gift Aid, the total raised was over £70,000. In total 1542 patients had life changing cataract surgery, together with pre-operative and post-operative care. 10 ## **Free Medical Camps (Annual Health Tour)** Free medical camps in 5 locations across Bangladesh - Mohammadpur (Dhaka), Barishal, Bishwanath (Sylhet), Jagannathpur (Sylhet) and Moulvibazar (Sylhet). Over 1500 patients seen, including provision of free medication Over £4500 of zakat distributed to eligible patients who were in need of further medical investigation and treatment 11 **Plans for 2024** With our name change to International Health Development Foundation, we will be looking to deliver our projects outside of Bangladesh. Our hope is that the poor and needy in other countries can benefit from the expertise that we’ve built in delivering these projects in Bangladesh over the last few years. In Bangladesh we will still operate under the Bangladesh Health Development Initiative (BHDI) name. In order to make the transition to an international charity successful, we will need the ongoing support of our volunteers and donors. Please come forward and support us in whatever way you can. 12 ## **Statement of Trustees’ Responsibilities** The trustees are required to prepare financial statements for each financial year in compliance with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 ad all other applicable law which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and the incoming resources and application of resources, including the net income and expenditure for the year. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently; make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis, unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue to operate. You consider the audit requirement of S144 (2) of the charities act 2011 does not apply, and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts under s145 of the 2011 Act to follow the procedures laid down in the general directions given by the Charity Commission under S145(5)(b) of the 2011 act and to state whether matters have come to my attention. ## **Basis of Independent Examiners Report:** My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking of explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in audit and consequently no option is given as to whether the accounts present a “true and fair view” and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. ## In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention. 1. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements: To keep accounts records in accordance with the CC S130 of the 2011 Act.
