MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR OF TRUSTEES
The last year has been hugely successful both in terms of the funds raised as well as the huge number of people that we have been able to benefit. Our monthly clinic project has been thriving and with the addition of a third location we have been able to benefit more people across Bangladesh. We have also been able to provide much needed medical help and assistance to those affected by the devastating floods in Sylhet.
I have also been really excited by our cataract project which has already changed the lives of so many people across Bangladesh. In total we plan to provide life changing cataract surgery to 1200 patients free of charge thanks to the great fundraising effort by H&K Cycle Club.
Our work is only possible through the hard work of our team of volunteers as well as the generosity of our donors. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you and would humbly request that you continue to support us.
Dr Kowsar Hoque
Chair, BHDI

MANAGING DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
As another year passed and we were getting used to limited or restricted travel with Covid restriction in some places, we took another tough decision not to risk both volunteer and patient health by holding our medical camps. Whilst travel bans were being lifted in some countries, we wanted to ensure we put safety first!
This decision however meant we were able to focus our efforts in providing local assistance, so
throughout the year we continued to run our medical clinics with safety precautions, but also provided direct assistance to a number of villages due to the floods. We provided emergency food and health clinics (including water purifying/treatment tablets), free medication and advice.
This was also one of our most successfully fundraising years, with donations from corporate organisations and H & K Cycle Club, all of whom we would like to thank for their generous support and trust. Using the fund raised by the cycle club, we began our promise to deliver 1200 free cataract operations across Bangladesh.
Finally, with the zakat funds collected, we provided support to a number of individuals and families with shelter, livelihood projects and assistance with health treatments (providing funds direct to them so they can use as needed).
Our support base has also grown and we ask that you continue to spread the word of our work, it is only through your support we can directly reach those in need.

MESSAGE FROM THE TREASURER
This has been our most successful year by far in terms of fundraising. We have raised over £100,000 which is a great milestone for our young but flourishing charity. This year has been a sharp contrast to the last couple of years which were in the midst of the Covid pandemic which limited our fundraising as well as the projects that we could safely deliver.
Our monthly clinic project grew from strength to strength and we successfully added a third location,
Thakurgaon. Devastating floods also affected large parts of the Sylhet region of Bangladesh. We successfully raised funds that enabled us to provide much needed emergency medical relief in the form of medical camps in the areas worst affected by the floods.
Cataract surgery is a very simple and cost-effective intervention which can totally transform someone’s life. With this in mind we embarked on a project to provide cataract surgery to the poor and needy. H&K Cycle Club’s monumental fundraising efforts resulted in them raising in excess of £70,000 for this project. This will enable us to carrying out cataract surgery on 1200 patients in total and hundreds of patients all over Bangladesh have already had cataract surgery as a result of this project. We had a significant underspent this year which was a result of us being midway through the cataract project. During the next few months, we plan to spend all the remaining funds raised for the cataract project by delivering further cataract surgeries across Bangladesh.
We hope and expect to build on the fundraising success of this year in the coming years and grow from strength to strength. None of this would be possible without the hard work of the BHDI executive team and volunteers as well as the support of the donors and wellwishers. With your continued support anything is possible.

PLANS FOR 2023
With the Covid pandemic being over, we can concentrate on growing and expanding our projects in 2023. With the monthly clinic project, our aim is to reach all corners of Bangladesh. With this in mind, we hope to be able to expand to include more locations for our monthly clinic.
BHDI has been in existence for a few years now. There have been discussions in the executive committee about whether it is the right time to expand our operations and go beyond the borders of Bangladesh. The general feeling among the team is that now would be the right time to take our successful projects beyond Bangladesh so that we can bring benefit to those in need internationally. Look out for announcements over the next few months.
