STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Sandbach Baptist Churth was previously structured as a Charitsble Unlncor￿jrdted Association.
Ix)wever the Church trok the decision to convert to a Charitsble Incorp)rated Organisation fCIO'?
arKd the ￿ CIO was registered with the (hrity Commission for ErKJland and Wales on 22 November
2019.
The Charity Commlssk)n for England and Wales authorfsed the transfer of assets and liabilibes and
the grdnting of an indemnty under section 105 of the Charitles Act 2011 between Sandbach Baptlst
urch (the unincorporated entity) a￿1 Sa￿lbach Baptist Churth (1186522) on 29 January 2020.
The financial statements therefore reflect a finanaal perlcKJ from the date of CIO registratK)n; 22
NovemtEr 2019 - 31 A￿Just 2020. Future yeats financial reFyJrtlro will revert to a full 12 rTh)nth
pericxl from I September to 31 August.
The charity is a Mem1￿ of the Baptlst Union of Great Britain arKI the North Western Baptist
Association.
Governing document and Management
The charity 15 controlled by its goveming document (CIO Ass(xiatK)n Constitution) dated l November
2019 and a￿Ended 7 March 2021.
Church M￿tErs, Meetings are held during the year to discuss and make key decisions on the life of
the Church. In accordan￿ with the constitutK)n, memLErs ap￿int Trustees who are responsible for
the overall governan￿ rf the thurth, and the financial arKI legal aspects of the charity. The Trustees
m&t regularty every 34 weeks.
All membws are encouraged to tske an approwiate part in the spfritual and practical tssks involved In
the furthe￿n￿ of the charitsble objective.
Objectives and Activities
In order to achieve the prlnclpal charitable objective atyjve, the church provldes a Wdriety of actlvltles
to its membershlp and to the communty. The alm ts to share love of Jesu5 with the
communty in Sandbach.

The (hurch does not (Mn a pl￿ of worship but rents a hall at Sandbach Primary Academy on a
Sunday momirKJ. Addltionally, the Church rents a communty building at 36 Green Str& Sandbach
for further acts of worship, study groups and our aynmunity-based activlts.
The Church's actmtles thanged signifKantly during the year following the outbreak of the Covid-19
pandemic and therefore the followirKJ activities reflect what happen￿1 Ixjth pre and t￿t lockdown,
whth (mirral on 23 March 2020:
CEntrdl to the work and wi1J￿SS of the Church is the provisk)n of regular services of Christlan W￿shIp.
These seNices tCK>k pl￿ eath Sunday at 10.30am at Sandbach Primary Academy and 6.30wi at
Oasis Cnmmunty Centre. The￿ was a children's wogramrrE during the rrK)rning servKe.
The Church also ran a serles of st￿ Groups and Prayer MeetirvJs for the growth of faith aTh
dlscipleship In either the trKx)￿ of Son￿ memLvs or at Oasis Communty Centre.
The thurth ran a number of mldweek groups fr(xn Oasis Communlty Centre. T1￿ IndUd￿ a ca￿r
a￿1 toddler Group called Tots arKJ Co, whth met weekly, Welcome Bap, a group for senlors, whlch
also met ￿kty and "Knit and Natterf which met twi￿ a ￿K)nth. The Church also ran a monthly
worshlp Service for the members (* Welcome Bap. In addition, the Churth also Starte￿ a group called
he Strugglers", which kx)ked to support vulnerable people Sn our cc¥nmunity.

Following the Covid.19 ￿efflrr￿nt kxkdown on 23 March 2020, the Church stOPfEd meetir¥J for
worship at Sandbath Primary Acadffj arKJ closed Its (knrs at Oasis CcAnmunity Centre. All mid-
k groups, includlrKJ House gr￿pS stopr£d M￿tIng physically.
The ￿urth looked at ways of keeping connect￿1 with members arKI ass(Klates and over time put in
the following solutions:

offered to those folk without the Intemet
Ontr a month, a video service was recorded arKI ￿)sted on the Church You TU1￿ d)annel
Study groups and prayer groups continued vlrtually, either using the ZLK)m platform or
through email. A numtEr of WhatsApp groups were establislEd (or In s¢Th cases continued)
to Cnn[￿ wple through ￿aYer req￿ts and sharing of informatlon.
The leader5 and helpers of Welcome Bap, Tots arkd Co and Struggler5 kept in touch with their
meJnbers regularly
Mernt￿r5 offered pracuol SUp￿rt to people in the communty or wlth links to the Church
who were in need
The minister w￿UCed a weekly newsletter, which IndUd￿ te￿hing, family news, prayer
requests and special Items of interest to the Churth. These were emailed to memtErs and
ass(Kiates arKI printed and delivered to those folk without emall
The mlnlster and elders ￿rSOnallY telephoned all memtHs arKI assodates on a regular basis
to keep in t0￿h and offer to pray them ff approprlate
The Church offers the OPFX)rtunlty to anyone to get together vlrtually Iwlce a month chat
As the UK continues to follow the &)vemments Roadmap on exitlrKJ krkdown, the Church wlll kx)k to
physlcally rw)en its activltks on a gradual basts followirvJ ￿)vern1r￿t guldelines, tsklng into
account ￿ safety of its memtEr5, associates and communlty.
Some communty sUPPOrt activltles such as SarKJbach FcKxJbank a￿1 Lifeline Debt Advi￿ were able to
re-start durirYJ lockdown and rrmibers have continued to SUp￿rt these activitsts during lockdown.
The Churth d￿S not measure the success of its programmes only in numbers, ind￿JIng finandal
numbers but also in less tsnglble areas Ilke felk)wshlp arKJ encouragement. The Trust&s reC￿3nise
that these are difficult to measure, particularly during a time of Government Covid-19 reStri￿nS.
The activities ltsted in the settion alx)ve under "Objectives and Activits" darKX￿ a thurch
which is committed to Its charltsble objectsves.

Financial Review
The Church contlnues to raise the funds, which it needs to (3ry on its ac￿VItIeS from within its own
memtErship/congregatK)n and from 3rd party hirlrKJ of the Oasls Communty Centre. PAJditlonalty, in
thls finandal ￿lOd, Church t￿nefitt￿ from a grant from the Local Authorlty to reco3nise that
the Oasis Communlty Centre needed to ck)se during lockdown, due to CovKI-19. Further grants have
t￿1 received up to ttE ￿fjnt of this rew)rt being signed.

11. Penslon Scheme Liability
The Church Is a participating employer the Baptfst Pension Scheme fthe Scheff£?, which is a
separate legal entity administered by the Pension Trust￿ (Baptist PenSh￿ Tnst Limitad). The assets
of the Scheme are held separately from those of the Empbyer and the other partlcipatlng anpk)yers.
The Scheme, previously known as ts Baptist Ministers, Penslon Fund, stsrted In 1925, but was
dosed to future accrual of defined t￿nefits on 31 De￿rnL￿r 2011. Prior to thls date the main tEnefft
pn)vlded through the Defined Benefft (DB) Plan was a pension of one eightieth of final minimum
pensionable inco￿£ for &3ch year of pensionable Servi￿ twher with ￿ldI￿Onal F£nsion In rtsFect
of premiums paid on Pensionable Income In excess of Minimum PenS￿nable Irmme. sin￿ l January
2012, berbefits have b￿n provlded through a Defined Contribution (DC) Plan.
A forn￿1 valuation of the DB Plan as at 31 December 2019 by a professionally qUalif￿d Actuary using
the Projected Unit Methcxl. At the valuation date the market value of the DB Plan assets was £298
million, whilst the level of assets needed to pay benefits was £316m, giving a defKit of £18m
(equivalent to a past service funding level of 94%). The Thurch and ts other paitipating
employers In the DB Plan are collectively responsible for funding this defKL The next actuarlal
valuation of the DB Plan wlthln the Scheme Is due to take pl￿ not later than as at 31 December
2022.
Under the Schedule of Contributions, the church makes a monthty payment In respect of the DB
scheme defici¢ currenty £307.95, which will increa* In Ilne with increases In Minimum Pensionable
IrKome. The Schedule of Contributti)ns fores￿5 these contributions continuiThJ until June 2026. The
slon scheme liabilty shown in the Statement of Assets and Ilabllttles Is calculateAJ as the current

Contributions, whlch an￿￿nted to £21,486 as at 31 August 2020.
The Churth has b￿n advlsed that the estimated cost for the church to buyout thelr Pension Scheme
liabilitles at 31 August 2020 was £34,900.
