## **Chairman’s Report – Tim Newcombe**

This is the last Annual Report that I shall be writing as I retire after the next AGM, on Wednesday September 10[ th .] It has been fascinating and at times a challenging six years. This included the Covid 19 pandemic and coming to terms with Zoom so that we could continue to enjoy the lectures. Through it all it has been a great privilege to lead the Arts Society Dartmoor.

During the last year we have reviewed the constitution that underpins our Arts Society. None of the basic principles have been touched, but the committee has prepared some minor revisions that mean it will better reflect the way our society runs. I do hope that these developments will meet with the approval of the members of TAS Dartmoor when they are presented at the AGM.

As you will see from the other reports there is much that we can all be proud of. We have maintained a full membership and we also have a waiting list. This is something many societies around the country do not have. We have continued with our core activities; ten lectures, a discovery day and a visit to a place of interest, and we have initiated further developments of our work in the community. This only happens because TAS Dartmoor is very fortunate to have an excellent committee. A team, small enough to be effective but large enough to share the work out, so that no one person is weighed down with too much to do.

As I prepare to retire as Chairman, I want to thank all those with whom I have had the privilege of serving. This includes those who have been elected or co-opted recently and those with whom I worked at earlier stages in my chairmanship of The Arts Society Dartmoor.

In future I shall be able to enjoy our lectures, and be a little more relaxed, knowing that others have taken up the responsibility for the smooth running of our meetings.

Tim Newcombe
