**19,708**| |---|---|---| Chairman's Re ort AGM 2024 - Tim Newcombe At our la8t AGM there were vote8 of tbank8 and pre8entation8 to the 8iX member8 of the committEe wbo were retiring and the election of th08e of our members who were readying them8elve8 ts) take over tbe re8pon8ibilitie8 of leadership. Ju8t a few weeks later the new (x)mmittee met for an 'Away Day,, (though it wa8 held in Okehampton) where we got to know one another better; learnt jU8t what each particular area of re8pon8ibdity involved and how everything inter-linked. The time 8pent together proved invaluable because we have been able build on all that other8 had done in the pa8t and continue to move our 80ciety fonyard. Another new development wa8 a coffee morning 8pecifically for new members of the 80ciety. Thi8 gave the member8 of the committse a chance to welcome them and an opportunity to 8hare with them not only information about our 81)ciety, but a180 what The Art8 Society offer8 all of u8. While quite a number of the otber affiliated Art S￿letie8 acr088 the country have Buffered a fall in memberslll'p, we have maintained a full member8hip and again we have a waiting li8t. And, a8 well a8 holding ten lecture8 we bave had a very 8ucee88ful trip to Shi18tone Hou8e in the 8pring and the Di8covery Day to be held on 24th October at the Anu]dell Arni8 Hotel at L￿ft0￿ ha8 Already attracted many booking8. Beyond The Art8 Society Dartmoor there have been 8everal 8ignthcant developments at national level. The arrival of Cultur.Art, a digital development de8igned th attract the intere8t of a younger (x)hort who bve their live8 on digital device8, ha8 proved very popular. The review of the Articles of A880eiation of the national elmrity based at Head offi￿ bowever, proved eontrover8ial. An Extraordinary General Meeting beld in June resulted in the prop08ed cbange8 being overwhelmingly defeated and thi8 led to 5 of the 6 tru8tees retiring. Prior to the National AGM, to be held on 23rd Augu8t 2024, 5 new trustees will be elected and they will, I hope, help to rebuild trust, restore equilibrium and move thing8 forward again. 1am delighted that we shall be returning to the Charter Hall for our AGM and all 8ub8equent lectures. I do want re(x)rd my thanks on behalf of all of us to the Steward8 and Mini8ter of Fairylace Church for their kindness and h08Pitality throughout our stay witb them over the last three and a l￿f years. Membership seCretar￿s Report 2024- Jane CB Chapman I am plea8ed to report that for the year 2024 member8hip 18 at full capacity with 200 member8. We are fortunate in thi8 respect and it 18 a tribute to our warm and welcoming 80ciety. We a180 have a 8hort wAiting li8t. Our varied progr8mme 18 attracting members to bring along a limitsd number of guests to 80me lecture8, where p088ible. It 18 a great plea8ure to 8ee 80 many of you attending. In September we are due to return ts) our Ori￿nal location of the Charter Hall. Thi8 may make it ea8ier for 80me people. I took over the role of Member8hip Secretary from Cyntkna {Cindy} Telford- Smollett. She ha8 been a great mentor in 8ettling me into thi8 role and ha8 8erved member8 for 12 year8. 1 wi8h to extend my thank8 and gratitude to her. Caroline Taylor, for the first time we were able to elaim and receive £2762 in Gth Aid during 2023. Thi8 ha8 made a big difference to our net annual income which for 2023 wa8 £2587 Our opening bank balance on 1st January 2023 wa8 £19708 with a cl08ing balance of £30102 on 31Jt December 2023. £7823 of this closing balan￿ wa8 ineome re￿]Ved in advan(% for our 2024 member8hip. Our income from our 2023 8ub8cription8 wa8 £9573 and with gue8t donation8 and waiting list fees thi8 came ts) a totAI of £10155 Both the Art8 Society Headquarter8 and South We8t affih'ation fees increased during 2023 Headquarter8: £14.21 to £15.94 per member South We8t: £0.30 to £0.40 per member At the time of writing, 28th May 2024, our bank balanee 8tand8 at £25961.40 We donated. for a Second year, £500 to the Get Changed Theatre Company and have done 80 al80 in 2024. DeBpite ri8ing costs the income for our 80ciety continue8 tA) exceed our expenditure. We also have A very healthy balance in our account and for that rea80n we are currently looking at variou8 W8yA we can 8UPPOrt and giving financial aid to additional Young Arts project8 Withm our local area. Lymie Vowle8 Trea8urer The Arts s(￿IetY Dartmoor Report from the Programme Secretary - Lynn West The programme in January 2024 with Andrew Prin(% 8tarted our year with a generally high level of enthu8ia8m from our members. So far thi8 year, the lecture8 have been varied and have been very well received. The reviews gathered by ￿'Chard Wraith for Andrew Prince. Cbantal Brotherton- Ratc1￿e, Sandy Burnett, Daniel Evan8, Anne Haworth and Caroline Bendix have been judged ts be either 'excellent' or 'outstandin¢. The review8 have in turn been 8ubmitted the Art Society HQ. Unfortunately. R08emary H8Wthorne -Knicker IAdy- had been overwhelmed by her personav dome8tic eircumstances and reluctantly cancelled her potential lecture for May. An email was sent to Rosemary to express our 8ympatby and to Wlsh her well. A replacement lecturer, Anne Haworth agreed ts dehver her lecture: In the mood for enchantment: The spelling binding beauty of fa8hion from the hou8e of Dior on 15th May. Caroline Taylor agreed tA) meet and h08t Anne. The programme for 2025 ha8 been confirmed and all b￿killg forn18 have been returned from the lecturer8. The final draft for 2025 programme ha8 yet to be 8ent to Judy Law to be finally a&8embled into correct brochure format. sin￿ thi8 draft ha8 been 8ubmitted and approved by our eommittee. Karin Fernald ha8 contacted me to Say that she had double booked her8elf for 12th March 2025. We are very plea8ed now ts) have bcoked David Tovey. Hi8 topic will be: The development of St lues as on art centre 8znce 1914 Report of the Vi8Rts and Study Days Seeretary - Caroline Shipley Visit to Shilstone House, Modburyg Ivybrldge on the 9th May 2024. 24 members and guests attended. C08t of the vi8it £33 including lunch. Self drive. The group wa8 taken on a private guAded tour of the hou8e by the owner. Mr8 Lucy Fenwick. Mr8 Fenwick and her husband had con￿lltrated on restoring the original architectural feature8 through its 8urviving architecture and archaeology hi8tory from 1600-1730. A180 available to Vi81t were the terraced formal garden8. tbe walled kitchen garden with it8 banqueting hou8e and the remnants of the only known late 17tb century water theatre, a8 well a8 the hi8ts)ric water garden with its ca8cading A buffet lunch wa8 enjoyed in a room 8et a8ide for our group. The day wa8 completed by a talk from the resident archae010￿st in the attached Devon Rural Archive. Thi8 wa8 an opportunity to in8pect hi8toric documents and photograph8 from the re8toratkon project, a8 well a8 hi8toric d￿Uments and record8 of many part8 of Devon. Discovery Day due to take pla￿ on 24 OetA)ber 2024 9.30am - 3.45 pm at the Arundell Arnis Hotel, Lifton. C08t of the day including coffeeltea and lunch £55pp. Self drive.
