## **Structure and How the Charity is Managed**

Prostate Pedallers is run by a head coach supported by volunteer members who constitute a core action team.

Recruitment of new members during Covid has been restricted to word of mouth. Typically, physicians who observe the beneficial effects of participation in the club rides or in supportive conversations with the coach and other members, recommend making contact with the club to other prostate cancer sufferers. Before Covid and again as soon as the pandemic allows, the club will hold Open Days promoted through prostate clinics, where potential members can meet active Pedallers and talk about their experiences and the benefits of participation

Volunteer core team members fulfil roles in the areas of:

- Administration and finance

- Ride activities and ride marshalling

- Publicity and communications.

The Pedallers head coach currently leads the activities of the core team, all of whom regularly participate in riding and discussion sessions and all of whom suffer from prostate cancer. All consequently have first-hand experience of most of the wide variety of treatments currently in use to treat the illness and understand the particular mental challenges posed by living with the disease on the individual, the family friends and colleagues.

Members are those with prostate cancer and those that support them such as friends and family who are invited to enjoy the benefits of the charity’s activities. Most members have been referred to the charity to augment their treatment by specialist clinicians such as specialist nurses, oncologists or surgeons and these professionals also occasionally join in the rides and attend Open Days. Prostate Pedallers beyond delivering the benefits of exercise, fresh air and comradeship aim to

strengthen the individual's mental strength and resilience to help them to cope with the psychological challenges of the disease whilst becoming fitter.

Our trustees are from a number of professional backgrounds and can advise the head coach in areas such as:

- Medical / clinical / NHS

- Business and finance

- Charitable organisations

## **Activities during the period and objectives in the year**

Activities during the period of the financial return were severely hampered by the Covid-19 and our core cycling activity was halted for some time. It also impacted upon recruitment, securing funds and most other activities. The charity did however run regular video conferencing with its members to discuss how the pandemic was affecting their lives and their situation. Whenever government directions allowed, members continued to meet and ride, take exercise and support each other.

Our objective is, as Covid regulations allow, to reach out and offer our help to the prostate cancer population. We hope to recruit members, return to promoting the club through open days, organize fitness programs, special rides and challenges so that we can share the benefits which we bring through improved mental and physical fitness. We aim this year to promote the Prostate Pedallers ethos by distributing a promotional video to other prostate cancer support groups encouraging them to start their own Prostate Pedallers clubs.

## **Achievements Up To 31[st] March 2021**

The club has continued to support its members through its fitness program where Covid allowed and through Zoom meetings when that was not possible. More one to one individual support through telephone conversation has occurred and been particularly helpful to those who have been newly diagnosed.

## **Financial Review including any debts and details of your reserves policy (if applicable)**

In its first financial period the charity has made a very modest advancement in its funding and assets. This is wholly due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its onset in relation to the timing of its establishment. Prostate Pedallers is funded by voluntary ride fees by its members and from ad hoc payments by outside groups and individuals who have heard about us and approve of our aims.

The Charity at its current stage of development does not intend to hold specific reserves however if charitable donations and ride fees increase with time post pandemic, then the intention is to create a general reserve to fund continued operation through any future periods where activities fall away due to unforeseen, unpredictable circumstances.

## **Details of any funds held as a custodian trustee**
