## **Aim and purposes**

The Bridge Church is an Assemblies of God church in Birmingham UK. The trustees and the church leadership work together to promote the mission and vision of the church.

## **Achievements and performance**

Worship and Prayer

The Bridge church are keen to offer a range of services during the week and over the course of the year that our community find both beneficial and spiritually fulfilling. For example, nightly prayers provide a quiet, intimate and reflective environment for worship whilst opportunities are provided for people to engage in programmes for the children and young adults.

This year we have been successful in leasing a new venue and welcoming new families to our church. We have held baptisms on a bi monthly basis. In addition a great deal of time and thought was spent during the year on making best use of the new services. Many have said how much easier it is to access information about the church.

All are welcome to attend our regular services. At present between 40 and 60 adults and children attend the church each week. This number increases when there are baptism services or other special events.

## **The Church building**

The state of the roof has been causing concern for sometime as has the air quality inside the building. Routine maintenance has been carried out and the environmental health team have conducted an inspection. The kitchen is still in need of furnishing with kitchen equipment.

## **Service to the Community and the Provision of Pastoral Care**

Pastoral care mostly takes place in our small groups. This are where individuals or families meet for fellowship and community connection.

## **Mission and Outreach**

Helping those in need is a demonstration of our faith. The mission and Evangelism is still being developed. In the next 12 months a clear strategy will be developed for mission and outreach

## **Ecumenical Relationships**

The church is a member of the Assemblies of God in the UK. From time to time we work alongside other churches in the

## **Financial Review**

The year 2021 has been good financially for the Bridge Church Brimingham. Stewardship giving around 82% higher than the previous year. This was a s a result of Money that we received specifically for Building Funds, Rent Income and Gift Aid Tax refund that amounted to £27,880.

In addition, we have run successful conference which will allow more foot flow to come into our new building

There were, however exceptional costs relating to the repair and restoration of the lease buildings that we acquired during the year.

## **Reserves Policy**

We are working towards having a reserves policy at the Bridge Church Birmingham to hold in reserves the equivalent of six months’ general running costs. Once establish this policy will be reviewed annually.

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

The Board met as usual every

## **Responsibilities of the Trustees**

The Trustees are required under the Charities Act 1993 to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the Church’s financial activities during the year and of its financial position at the end of the year. In preparing financial statements giving a true and fair view, the trustees should follow best practice and:

- select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently

- make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent

- state whether applicable accounting standards and statements of recommended practice have been followed, subject to any departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements

- prepare the financial statements on a going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation

The trustees are responsible for keeping accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy the financial position of the Church and which enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with applicable law and regulations. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Church and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

## **Independent Examiner’s Report on the Accounts**

## **Receipts and Payment Accounts**

## **Report to the trustees/members of The Bridge Church Birmingham**

## **Registered Charity Number 1186458**

## **On the accounts for the year ended 31[st] December 2021**

## **Set out on the following pages**

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity¹s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to: examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act; follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and

state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of independent examiner’s report**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **Independent examiner’s statement**

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements

- To keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and

- • To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act Have not been met; or

(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
