## **Senior Cricket 2025:**

The First XI competed in the NWCL in the third season of the competition and following promotion in 2024 were placed in the top division.

Jon Fearick as Director of Cricket took charge of all cricket matters at senior level and continued to work with the players in all teams displaying a huge level of professionalism, support and passion for our club.

Through no shortage of hard work and dedication the first XI were unfortunately relegated form the top division after just one season finishing in 11[th] position in what was a disappointing outcome in a season that we had much higher expectations.

As Chairman I take ultimate responsibility for all outcomes and will use this opportunity to remind people that out of adversity we see the quality of individuals characters and how we bounce back in 2026 will be a true test of that.

The Second XI continued to develop and were once again responsible for the development of several junior players that continue to show promise and the potential of graduating into the first team. The senior sides were also supported by a number of more experienced players who continue to defy their advancing years setting standards and playing with a smile on their faces. The second XI also had reason to celebrate gaining promotion and just missing out on winning the league whilst not being helped by the late summer weather. In addition to promotion the team also made it to the Lawrenson Cup Final and what proved to be a great day out for the boys and the travelling army of supporters. Unfortunately, we fell short to a very impressive Salesbury side, but everyone involved had a great day out and represented the very best of our club.

Our 3[rd] XI which was made up of a very young nucleus of players competed well in the season with some outstanding individual and team performances. Unfortunately, we came out on the wrong side of a number of close results and were ultimately relegated from the top division of the West Lancashire Cricket Leage. As with the 1[st] XI I’m certain the boys will bounce back in 2026 and the team under the new management of Trevor Foster continue to provide a valuable link between junior and senior cricket as well as much needed revenue for the club.

I would like to take the opportunity to place on record my gratitude to first, second and third team captains Jack Welch, Greg Greenough supported by Michael Tomlinson for their tremendous contributions to the senior section. All have led their teams with great passion and dedication throughout the year and have been a credit to themselves and the club.

Finally, I wanted to once again express my gratitude to Jon Fearick for the way that he continually drives standards with our seniors. Ultimately results haven’t gone the way that he would have wanted but rest assured this is through no lack of passion, drive and desire. In a club with a 153 year history there will always be bumps in the road but I’m sure the players will learn from the experiences that they have had in 2025 and come back stronger as players and people in 2026.

As Chairman Jon and the players have my full support and I ask all members to continue to show Jon and the players the respect and support they rightly deserve.

## **Junior Cricket 2025:**

Within the junior section the club entered teams at under 9s, two under 11s, under 13s, under 15s and U18s age groups, plus an U12 Girls team.

The juniors enjoyed another positive year on and off the pitch with a strong identity developing amongst the players in every team and an understanding and pride in the values of our club being displayed positively.

Team Highlights from the junior season include;

The club also successfully ran our All-Stars program, culminating in over 25 children signing up to the sessions. The sessions ran from May through to August in line with ECB plans. Following the conclusion of the official program the club continued to offer training sessions free of charge to children from the local community.

In addition to All Stars the club also ran the ECB Dynamos program specifically for girls. The program was again a huge success bringing in new members and families into our club and the sport of cricket.

Both programs continue to play an important role introducing boys and girls to our sport and moving into 2026 under the leadership of Hassan Ahmed, will continue to be an integral part of our club.

I would personally like to add my gratitude and admiration to Hassan who has worked tirelessly to grow junior cricket for boys and girls at Atherton CC and provide us with another opportunity for local children to enjoy our club and sport.

The success of the junior section is also in no small part to the commitment and dedication of the junior coaches headed by our

## **2025 Summary**

In closing, I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to all our members, volunteers, players, sponsors and, in particular, the committee, whose time, commitment and hard work continue to be the backbone of this club.

Everything we achieve is the result of collective effort and a shared passion for the game the community and our club. As we look ahead, it is important to remind ourselves that every decision we make whether on or off the field should be guided by what is in the best interests of the club, both now and for future generations.

If we continue to work together with that principle at heart, I am confident the club will continue to go from strength to strength.

Yours in sport
