Throughout the year the club has continued to develop its facilities and is well placed in all areas to continue its progression on and off the field.

## **Key achievement includes:**

- £80k grant from Centrica Via Energy for Tomorrow for renewable project.

- ECB grant £10k for LED lighting and Cellar cooler.

- New alarm system.

- Electrification of Garages.

- Halloween Fireworks Spectacular.

- Purchase of new roller.

- Square Irrigation project.

- Purchase of Toro Mower.

- Competing and developing at junior and senior level.

- Appointment of new grounds person.

## **Senior Cricket 2023:**

On the cricket field the senior teams enjoyed a mixed season in terms of performance. The First XI competed in the NWCL for the first time and endured something of a transitional season with the integration of new players and the development of young players into first team cricket.

One real highlight of the season was the appointment of former England U19s player Jon Fearick as Director of Cricket who took charge of all cricket matters at senior level. Due to the unique position that Jon holds as a former Atherton player and with his standing in the game, Jon made positive cultural changes to the senior section that moving forward will facilitate growth and develop of all senior teams and individual players.

The Second XI continued to develop and was once again responsible for the development of a number of junior players that will continue to show promise and the potential of graduating into the first team. The senior sides were also supported by a number

of former players who showed their commitment to the club in playing when needed and often at short notice.

On the back of their championship winning season in 2022 the Third XI competed well in the West Lancashire Premier Division League with some outstanding individual and team performances. The Third XI continues to provide a valuable link between junior and senior cricket as well as much needed revenue at the weekend. I would like to take the opportunity to place on record my gratitude to first, second and third team captains Jack Welch, Dale Tyrer and Charlie Gredecki for their tremendous contributions to the senior section. All three have led their teams with great passion, dedication and skill throughout the year and have been a credit to themselves and the club.

## **Junior Cricket 2023:**

Within the junior section the club entered teams at under 9s, under 11s, under 13s, under 15s and for the first time in many years U18s age groups.

The juniors enjoyed another positive year on and off the pitch with a strong identity developing amongst the players in every team and an understanding and pride in the values of our club being displayed positively.

The club also successfully ran our All-Stars program, culminating in 32 children signing up to the sessions. The session ran from May through to August in line with ECB plans. Following the conclusion of the official program the club continued to offer training sessions free of charge to children from the local community. The program continues to play an important role introducing boys and girls to our sport and moving into 2024 under the leadership of Hassan Ahmed, will continue to be an integral part of our club.

Hassan was also instrumental in the formation of a little piece of history at Atherton CC when he formed and ran our first junior girl team under the ECB Dynamos program. The program was extremely successful and due to high participation levels led to the formation of a girls U12s team for the 2024 season.

I would personally like to place on record my gratitude and admiration to Hassan who has worked tirelessly to grow junior

cricket for boys and girls at Atherton CC and provide us with another opportunity for local children to enjoy our club and sport. The success of the junior section is in no small part to the commitment and dedication of the junior coaches headed by our Head of Junior Cricket Greg Greenough and the players, parents and club owe a great deal of gratitude to them.

## **Financial Records**

The full financial records for the club are provided in the treasurer’s annual accounts.

The clubs annual accounts are available to all members and via Companies House in accordance with Limited Company and Charity Commission requirements.

Within the accounts are details of the club’s cash reserves.

The club holds no debts.

## **2023 Summary**

To manage the club with the history of Atherton on and off the field is a huge challenge for everyone associated with it. On reflection, 2023 proved to be a very enjoyable year at Atherton on and off the field and members of the club enjoyed the year tremendously.

As Chairman, I do however need to share my thoughts on the future of the club in an ever changing social, political and economic environment.

As a club placed at the heart of the community ran almost exclusively by volunteers, we face many challenges to stay relevant, sustainable and ultimately viable. As the club grows, develops and offers our members a club that is fit for the next generation it is important that we remember the value of club cohesion and a desire to put the club’s best interests before that of the individual.

The club relies on a handful of people making sacrifices on a personal level to run the club and the support of all members is

crucial to the development of our club whilst supporting them and the wider club.

On a personal level I have seen so many invaluable contributions that for most people go unnoticed but without them the club would be nowhere near the club it currently is. In these changing times we must remember to support each other and continue to work for the greater good of the club. We are the current custodians of the club and must do everything we can to pass it onto the next generation in a strong and prosperous condition. The club however has much to be positive about and I would like to place on record my personal gratitude to the committee and all club members for their continued passion, dedication, generosity and loyalty supporting the club in so many ways. Yours in sport
