SILKSTONE COMMON SPORTS AND RECREATION ASSOCIATION C.I.O. TRUSTEES. REPORT PERIOD ENDED 30 APRIL 2026 The trustees present their report and accounts for the period l* May 2025 to 30 April 2026. Structurei governance and management Silkstone Common Sports and Recreation Association is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), registered with the Charity Commission and governed by its constitution, adopted 19th November 2019. The members of the CIO are the charity trustees. Membership of the CIO cannot be transferred to anyone else. The liability of each member in the event of winding-up is limited to a sum not exceeding £1. The charity trustees may create associate or other classes of non-voting membership and may determine the rights and obligations of such members. The affairs of the CIO are managed by the charity trustees who may exercise all the powers of the CIO. One third of the trustees will retire at a properly convened meeting each year but may be reappointed. Appointment of Trustees In accordance with the terms of the constitution, there must be at least three charity trustees. If the number falls below this minitnum, the remaining trustees can act only to call a meeting of the trustees or appoint a new trustee. There is no maximum number of charity trustees that may be appolnted to the CIO. Trustees can only be appointed by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. Each new trustee is given a copy of the constitution and the latest trustees, annual report and accounts, on or before appointment. In appointing trustees due consideration is given to ensuring that the trustees have, between them, the skills and experierice necessary to manage the charity effectively and in accordance with charity law. The trustees who served during the year are shown on page 3 of this report. Charitable aims and objectives The objects of the charity are: l. To further or benefit the SIdentS of the Parish of Silkstone and the neighbourhood, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together the said residents and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities In the interests of soclal welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the residents. REPORT continued PERIOD ENDED 30 APRIL 2026 Activities undertaken for the public benefit In shaping the objectives for the year, the trustees have pald due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Cornmission. The trustees consider that all activities, as outlined in this report, meet the public benefit requirement. In November 1926, Sllkstone Common Miners purchased a parcel of woodland known as Hall Royd Wood, with monies allocated from the Miners Welfare Fund. Thus, the beginnings of the-silkstone Common Welfare Recreation Ground" an amazing space for the residents of Silkstone Common to use. It is located off Hall Royd Walk. Silkstone Common Sports and Recreation Association was founded by a group of residents within Silkstone Common, who were concerned at the ever-decreasing condition of the valued "recreational ground" We got together in 2019 to form a committee to improve the area, and we are now a registered charity. The hope is to bring the area back to life and once Tnore make it the heart of the village. Together we can make the most of this natural area, make it accessible for everyone and create a space where community spirit can grow. The current recreational ground is a charitable trust entrusted to CISWO and registered as a charitable trust to BMBC. We hope to take the lease enabling us to apply for charitable funds to improve the area for all in the community to benefit. Achievements during the period Pro ectb ck round In 1997 we, the residents of Silkstone Common, lost the focal point of our community, The Pavilion, which was located in the recreation ground. It was destroyed by fire. The Pavilion facilities had served our young and not so young resldents for over 90 years, fostering sport and social events. The village had a close, warm and invitlng community spirit, and the Pavilion was at the forefront of all our residents in Silkstone Common. Significantly in the last 20 years our village has become fragmented, and new residents have not experienced that close community spirlt. togetherness and wellbeing that our people of the village still have to offer. The large recreation ground (4.6 acres) is capable of facilitating many different field sports. The village needs a new sports pavilion to support external sports and internal social activities, and to provide a home for our famous"Old Silkstone Band- a very prestigious member of the brass band circles. A proposal for a new pavilion has been under discussion for several years and was the subjett of a planning application being approved in 2001. however, the pavilion was never built. Page 5

REPORT continued PERIOD ENDED 30 APIUL 2026 The charity would Ilke to bulld a new bulldlng to fulfil the current needs of a vlbrant ommunity that has a large and ever increasing number of families, providing good dlsabled access and facilities for the club's disabled section. From the outset, the project has involved both local residents and others. It is a major community project to which numerous volunteers have already donated substantial time and resources. The charity is still pursuing the lease of Silkstone Common Miners Welfare Recreation Ground. Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council hold the site in trust for the Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation. BMBC are reluctant to glve us the land and restore a facility for all our community and not just for junior football. A village hall will give us the facility we require to facilitate and to honour our charity governance, toilets Is a necesslty for elderly and dlsabled resldents to watch their children play. The survey carrled out by our charity in 2020 indicated what the Silkstone Common community wanted, which in effect was what had been in situ before BMBC took over the Trust in 1996. Silkstone Common Community has a long, proud 5POrts and social history. The football club's first game is thought to have been played in 1926, when the existing ground was created. Although Silkstone Common is a village, the residents have grown year on year, ideally situated now to embrace once again the comrnunity spirit back into sport and social activities. Education will play a major role in the use of a pavilion when we achieve this, as we are on the trail of The Huskar Plt Disaster, a very sad historlc event in our village. The local school, Silkstone Common J & I School, will use the facility. We have reserved space for a classroom. The added benefit Is that schools from around the borough will be able to use the facility when accessing the historic trails of the Huskar Pit disaster. Pro ress durin The hope is that the Silkstone Common Miners Welfare recreation ground will apply for a Football Foundation grant to bring the ground back to a useable football playlng field. Works will begin with spiking, the project will be a 6 year process. This year we have been working with Barnsley Council to obtain permission for these plans. Page 6

REPORT continued PERIOD ENDED 30 APRIL 2026 The Charity's pollcy on reserves The trustees recognise the need to keep reserves at a level which will give the charity stability to enable it to continue to operate in the future. For these purposes, the charity will aim to maintain a general reserve in the region of £10,000 at any one time, with a view to increasing this as necessary once the attivities of the charity become more established. The actual level of unrestricted reserves at the year-end was £2,915 (2025: £6,458). As this is only the sixth period of the charity with very little attivity in the first couple of years, the trustees consider the level of reserves at the year end to be appropriate. Trustees responsibilities for the financial statements The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy the financial position of the charity at any time and enable the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year. The trustees are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detectlon of fraud or other irregularities. Financial Position The financial statements are set out in pages 9 to 12. The Receipts and Payments Account shows a deficit for the period of £3,543 (2025: surplus of £2,380). The total reserves of the charity at year-end stand at £4,975 (2025: £8,518). The trustees declare that they have approved the report above. Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year, under section 144 (2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: examine the accounts, under section 145 of the 2011 Act; follow the procedures laid down in the general directions given by the Charlty Commissioners under section 145 (5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and state whether particular matters have come to my attention Basis of independent examiner's report My examination was carried out in accordance with the general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accountlng records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view, and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. Accountlng policies Basis of th ration of the accounts The financial statements have been prepared on a Receipts & Payments basis which summarises the movement of cash In and out of the organisatlon. In thls context 'cash' includes cash equivalents, such as bank accounts where cash can be readily available to pay debts as they fall due. This format of accounts is available to non- company charities with gross annual income of £250,000 or less. Classification of income & ex enditure Income and expenditure has been analysed in the accounts using natural classification. structure The charity maintains an unrestrirted fund which represents funds which are expendable at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the objects of the charity. Unrestricted funds may arise from grants and donations of a general nature, fees for goods and servlce provlded and payment for service contracts. Restricted funds may be provided to the charity for particular purposes and may only be spent for the purposes for which they were given. Any balance remaining outstanding on a restricted fund at the end of the year is carrled forward as a balance on the fund, unless permission has been glven by the funder to remove the restrlctlon on the balance outstandlng. Restricted funds wlll arlse from grants and donations given to the charity for specific purposes. 2. Trustee payments. benefits and expenses There were no payments, remuneration or benefits to trustees during the period, other than out of pocket expenses that were reasonably incurred by trustees in promoting the purposes of the Charity. 3. Grants received A restricted grant of £2,060 was received from the Penistone area Ward Alliance in 2022. The original use of the grant has been amended, and it has been agreed now as a contribution towards a future pavilion. An unrestricted grant of £250 was received from Sheffield & Dlstrict football league. 6.
