Henley in Arden and District Dementia Café Annual Review

Henley in Arden and District Dementia Café was registered on 19[th] November 2019. The aim was to provide a friendly social meeting place for people with all forms of memory or dementia problems and their families and friends in the Henley in Arden and surrounding district, to alleviate isolation in the community and tackle loneliness.
The café launched with a Christmas event with carol singing in December 2019 and met monthly in January and February with hall hire provided free of charge. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the vulnerability of those who attend the café, we were closed until December 2020 with no ongoing activity due to national and local lockdowns and ongoing restrictions on social gatherings.
We relaunched in December 2020, meeting fortnightly in a new, more accessible venue in the centre of Henley in Arden and are known locally as the Memory Lane Café. Attendance has increased from 12 at our very first meeting to between 30-40 with regulars and newcomers each week.
We have a team of volunteers who rotate to provide and serve refreshments at each meeting.
Each meeting there is a different activity, for example singing, bingo, craft activities.
Funding has been provided by local Parish Councils, a County Councillor grant and donations from individuals and a local business. The Memory Lane Café is becoming known in the local community and is achieving its aim of supporting people with memory problems and their carers as well as tackling loneliness in the community by providing a regular and friendly place for residents to gather and meet for friendship, chat and activity.
