## **Alternative Giving CIO** 

The Alternative Giving charity had an income of £18,725.  The launch of the charity took place on 3 March 2020 where over 60 people representing local businesses, charities and public sector attended to offer support through volunteering, offering locations for donation boxes and tap to donate devices.  The Trustees agreed at a February meeting of the charity to transfer the donations received into the Small Change for a Big Change Campaign into the new Alternative Giving CIO. 

Chair, Secretary to the charity and Trustees offered to be involved with the setting up of the charity and attended early meetings has members/proposed Trustees to discuss the constitution of the Alternative Giving CIO.  Meetings commenced from April 2019 through to registration of the charity on 18 November 2019.  Chair of the charity at the time chaired the City Centre Rough Sleeper Tasking Force of which a number of Trustees attended and had the relevant skills, knowledge and interest in assisting the charity to be set up and constituted.

The ‘Summary of the main activities undertaken’ also includes confirmation that the trustees have had regard to our guidance on public benefit when planning the charity’s activities. Further information about is provided in a ‘Summary of the main achievements’.

This is an integral<br>part of giving vulnerable people a sense of<br>identity and hope. Each certificate costs £11 (+<br>£5, processing charge) in Wolverhampton. The<br>prices in other authorities vary.<br>The benefits of obtaining a birth certificate are<br>manifold.<br>Without basic I.D the most vulnerable of our<br>clients find it extremely to access mainstream<br>services, benefits and housing, employment &<br>training; this keeps people, very firmly, on the<br>outer margins of society.  A birth certificate<br>may be required in conjunction with another<br>form of I.D when applying for employment or<br>opening a bank account. Without this most<br>basic evidence, further exclusion is reinforced.<br>Our experience has shown that when a<br>vulnerable person obtains a birth certificate it<br>is a massive boost to their self-esteem and<br>proves tangibly that they both exist (and<br>matter).|





|||**Good Shepherd Trust -**Long term rough<br>sleeper recently evicted from hostel<br>accommodation. To prevent return to the<br>streets while sourcing alternative<br>accommodation 5 nights B&B at the Britannia<br>required. The client has been referred to<br>housing first and accepted for emergency<br>banding on housing.<br>**Wolverhampton Church Shelter**: The<br>replacement of sleeping bags, mattresses and<br>camp beds.  To upgrade to better quality camp<br>beds which are more robust and last longer.|
