Objectives

The principal objects of the Charity are for the public benefit to advance spiritual, mental and moral improvement by promoting the teachings of Tao and Confucius. It aims to spread core values of Dao which make for a better, more tolerant, open and peaceful society.

Statement of Faith

We believe that there is one God, we believe God is what we called the Dao, eternally existent in everything. We believe that the Dao ultimately governs everything.

We believe that the Dao is the origin, and the Dao is also the law of everything.

We believe that all souls are given life by Dao, invisible from our naked eye, yet it manifests as the quality of morality as kindness, virtuous and truthfulness.

We believe that everyone’s soul come from Dao, everyone’s life is given by Dao, and everything relies on Dao.

We believe that by helping our fellow people to actualising the indwelling of Dao within everyone, enables them to live a godly life. A life that is with good quality, morality, loyalty, civility, respect and autonomously harmonious.

Structure, governance and management

Nan Ping Spiritual Cultivation Organization of the UK was founded as a Company Limited by Guarantee and not having a Share Capital in November 2016 and registered as a faith-based charitable company in November 2019.

We aim to spread the core values of the faith “I-Kuan (Tian) Dao” which is rooted in Chinese tradition and based on the teachings of Tao (Dao) and Confucius. The doctrines and the teachings emphasise values such as family, honour, respect and moderation, vegetarianism, self-discipline and high morals and ethics.

The trustees are responsible for the management of the organisation. The trustees are fully aware of the teachings of Dao and Confucius and I-Kuan Tao values when making decisions, and always keep in mind the objects of the Organisation when discuss and review which activities to be carried out by the organisation.

All trustees give of their time freely and no trustee remuneration was paid in the year. The trustees are required to disclose all relevant interests and where necessary withdraw from decisions where a conflict arises.

Grant-making policy

The charity is mainly funded by donation, which is given by either bank online transfer or cash deposit of collection box. The charity is still at its initial years as it just starts up in the country and due to the difficult situation of Covid-19 pandemic since early 2020, the funding was primarily supported by the members of the overseas associated organisations and a few followers in the UK.

The trustees have taken the due diligence procedures seriously, an Anti-Money Laundering Policy is applied, which includes verifying the identity of donors before accepting any donations.

ACTIVITES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Commencing February 2023, following the alleviation of the pandemic, we are resuming our customary meetings and the annual sacred congregation.

a. Prayer

The Charity facilitates access to worship services as a means to foster the development of conscientious individuals who, in turn, contribute to a more tolerant society by instilling the core values of I-Kuan Dao.

b. Scriptures reading and study assembly

c. Encourage volunteering

Volunteering holds a significant role in our spiritual journey, enriching our religious practice by fostering a selfless and compassionate heart. It serves as a powerful catalyst for the development of higher moral and ethical values, elevating us to a more profound spiritual plane. Within our Dao community, there is not just encouragement but a genuine eagerness to engage in voluntary contributions at the temple. Remarkably, those who have embraced this path report a profound transformation—they discover greater happiness, inner peace, heightened forgiveness, and a profound sense of spiritual fulfillment.

d. Vegetarianism

In our ongoing effort to promote the adoption of a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle, we actively engage individuals through the sharing and preparation of vegetarian meals. Aligned with the principles of Dao, our approach embodies the values of love, peace, equality, and mercy. As practitioners of Dao, we recognize our responsibility to care for all living beings and the environment.

On July 9, 2023, we organized a compelling vegetarian event titled "Healthy Diet, Healthy Life." Renowned speaker Dr. Janus Lee from New Zealand graced the occasion, delivering an enlightening lecture enriched with a compelling case study and nutritional insights from an epidemiological perspective. To enhance the experience, we curated a delectable array of vegetarian cuisines for all attendees to savor following the insightful discourse.

The event proved to be a resounding success, garnering an abundance of positive feedback. Attendees expressed their appreciation, recommending that we host similar events more frequently. This positive response reaffirms our commitment to fostering awareness about the benefits of a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle and encourages us to continue organizing impactful events in the future.

e. Annual Holy Congregation

On July 2, 2023, we hosted our one-day Annual Holy Congregation. The event featured enlightening lectures on doctrinal teachings, in-depth studies of holy messages, and an exploration of the vegetarian movement. All attendees were treated to nourishing vegetarian meals for both lunch and dinner. We extend our sincere gratitude to the devoted supporters and collaborators from associated organizations overseas for their unwavering support and assistance.

f. Chinese New Year Blessings

From January 22nd to February 5th, 2023, we celebrated the vibrant Chinese New Year, ushering in the Year of the Rabbit. This festive period holds profound significance for the Asian community, particularly for those residing in distant lands. Our calendar was brimming with meaningful prayers and blessings, creating an enriching atmosphere of reunion for those separated from the comforting embrace of home and family.

Nan Ping Spiritual Cultivation Organisation of the UK Notes to the Accounts for the year ended 31 July 2023

1 Accounting policies

Basis of prepration

These financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recognised at cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant note(s) to these accounts. The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued on 16 July 2014 and the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and with the Charities Act 2011.

Income

Income is recognised in the statement of financial activities(SoFA) when the charitable company has entitled to the funds, any performance conditions attached to the income have been met and the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability.

Tangible fixed assets

Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulative depreciation and any accumulative impairment losses. Depreciation is provided on all tangible fixed assets, other than freehold land, at rates calculated to write off the cost, less estimated residual value, of each asset evenly over its expected useful life, as follows:

Land and buildings not depreciated Plant and machinery over 5 years Motor Vehicles over 5 years

Debtors

Short term debtors are measured at transaction price (which is usually the invoice price), less any impairment losses for bad and doubtful debts. Loans and other financial assets are initially recognised at transaction price including any transaction costs and subsequently measured at amortised cost determined using the effective interest method, less any impairment losses for bad and doubtful debts.

Creditors

Short term creditors are measured at transaction price (which is usually the invoice price). Loans and other financial liabilities are initially recognised at transaction price net of any transaction costs and subsequently measured at amortised cost determined using the effective interest method.

Provisions

Provisions (ie liabilities of uncertain timing or amount) are recognised when there is an obligation at the reporting date as a result of a past event, it is probable that economic benefit will be transferred to settle the obligation and the amount of the obligation can be estimated reliably.

Foreign currency translation

Transactions in foreign currencies are initially recognised at the rate of exchange ruling at the date of the transaction. At the end of each reporting period foreign currency monetary items are translated at the closing rate of exchange. Non-monetary items that are measured at historical cost are translated at the rate ruling at the date of the transaction. All differences are charged to profit or loss.
