COLLYHURST AND MOSTON BOXING CLUB Registered Charity No 1186370 Income & Expenditure Account for the year ended 31 December 2024 Collyhurst & Moston Boxing Club 31 DECEMBER 2024 CONTENTS ||Page| |---|---| |Trustees' Report|3| |Independent Examiner’s Report|5| |Statement of Financial Activities|6| _2_ Collyhurst & Moston Boxing Club 31 DECEMBER 2024 TRUSTEES' REPORT The Trustees' Management Committee present their report for the year ended 31 December 2024. ## **Trustees** The Trustee members who served on the Management Committee during the year were as follows: Deborah Jump – Trustee and Chair John Daly-Greenham – Trustee Alec Clark – Trustee Gary Millar – Trustee Tony Hennon – Trustee Rebecca Kirkland - Trustee ## **Senior Management** The day-to-day duties are under the management of Martin Roberts and Thomas McDonagh. ## **Objectives and Activities** The promotion of community participation in healthy recreation in particular by the provision of facilities for amateur boxing; - To advance the education of the inhabitants of Collyhurst and Moston, Greater Manchester, and the surrounding areas in such ways as the Charity Trustees think fit, including developing their mental, physical and moral capabilities through leisure time activities; - To provide or assist in the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for healthy recreation or other leisure time occupation for individuals residing in Collyhurst and Moston, Greater Manchester, and the surrounding areas who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances with the object of improving their quality of life ## **Appointment, Induction and Training of Trustees** All members of the Board of Trustees give their time voluntarily and receive no benefits from the charity. Further trustees will be recruited to fill gaps in experience and knowledge that bring a stated benefit to the charity. ## **Risk Review** The trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed, in particular those relating to the operations and finance of the organisation, and are satisfied that procedures and systems are in place to mitigate the charity's exposure to risks. ## **How the Charity's Activities Deliver Public Benefit** The promotion of community participation, fitness & education by providing amateur boxing facilities. ## **Principal Funding Sources** The main sources of income for the charity in the year are grants and commissions from Children In _3_ Collyhurst & Moston Boxing Club 31 DECEMBER 2024 TRUSTEES' REPORT Need, Manchester City Council, Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit and Fight for Peace. ## **Financial Review** This year the charity has seen steady growth this year. Although the charity has recorded a deficit, this is because the charity has invested significantly in its coaches and staff training, which will stand the charity in goods stead for future years. We see the staff training and coaching costs as a long term investment that will ensure this charity remains on a sustainable footing going forward. The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the charity trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charity for that period. In preparing the financial statements, the Trustees are required to: - Select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently; - Observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP; - Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; - State whether applicable UK accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and - Prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue to operate. The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the trust deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. ## **Registered Office** 2 Oscar Street Manchester, M40 9DE _4_ Collyhurst & Moston Boxing Club 31 DECEMBER 2024 TRUSTEES' REPORT On behalf of the Trustees' Management Committee This year the charity has been able to grow its provision and now serves more people in the community, including people from more diverse backgrounds, a broader range of age groups and an increase in female participation. This has been made possible by securing more grant funding which has allowed the delivery of a greater number of boxing and boxing related activities both at Collyhurst and Moston Club itself and in the community. CMBC runs targeted, non-contact boxing and mentoring programmes for vulnerable young people and has delivered a behaviour & attitude intervention curriculum in local primary schools — explicitly aimed at reducing exclusion and the risk of offending. This directly supports the local council’s commitments around community safety, serious-violence prevention and the “Behaviour and Attitude” work strands referenced in Greater Manchester funding and local strategies. As a long-standing, community-rooted charity (club history back to 1917), CMBC creates inclusive space across ages and genders and delivers outreach in neighbourhoods — aiding Manchester’s wider “Our Manchester” and social cohesion ambitions by strengthening local networks and giving residents positive communal places to meet, learn and volunteer. This year CMBC has established a partnership with The 0161 Project, a local specialist education provider that aims to support 14–25 year-olds who are either at risk of becoming or who are already NEET, offering mentoring, volunteering and pathways into sport/education or employment — There is a robust Service Level Agreement (SLA) that outlines the partnership between The 0161 Project Ltd and Collyhurst & Moston Boxing Club (CMBC) for the delivery of one-to-one (121) coaching and mentoring sessions and the rental agreement for the use of CMBC space. This is an exciting development that will provide more employment opportunities for people connected with the club in terms of coaching and mentoring in education time, in addition to our core club and community programmes at evenings and weekends. The development in all aspects of our provision this year means the charity has supported over 350 different individuals throughout the year, continuing to strive to have a positive impact on the physical and mental wellbeing of North Manchester residents. As a result of the growth in provision, the charity has been able to grow the number of paid coaches and volunteers, which contributes towards the economic activity in the community and upskilling local people. We have invested in comprehensive training and development for all staff and volunteers, which includes being ‘Trauma Informed’ along with key safeguarding and health & safety courses. The Amateur Boxing Club is the key pillar of the charity and the number of registered boxers representing the club have grown by over 20% in the last year. The club has achieved great success in the last year, with a number of members winning regional competitions. The trustees are satisfied that the charity operates within fit and proper policies and procedures that safeguards all service users, volunteers and sessional staff. The quality assurance and due diligence of the charities activities continue to be scrutinised comprehensively at quarterly trustee meetings and regular correspondence with the delegated management team within the charity. The trustees are satisfied that the charity has robust financial procedures and the financial position is secure. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Charities Act”) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: - examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act, - follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and - state whether particular matters have come to my attention. ## **Basis of independent examiner’s statement** My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. ## **Independent examiner's statement** In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention: 1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements:  to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; and  to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act have not been met; or 2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
