TRUSTEES' REPORT (INCLUDING DIRECTORS' REPORT) FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2023

The Trustees, who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act, present their annual report and the financial statements of Alexander Jansons Myocarditis UK for the 12 months ended 31st December 2023.

The financial statements comply with current statutory requirements, the charity’s Constitution and the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102).

Objectives and activities

The objects of the charity are for the public benefit to relieve the sickness, suffering and distress of those persons (and their families) who are suffering from myocarditis (and other similar related conditions), in particular but not limited to by promoting research into the causes, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of myocarditis.

The charity raises funds to finance research in accordance with its objects by seeking donations and by organising fundraising events.

Achievements and performance

In 2023 the charity raised £163,613 in donations and from fundraising events and £100,000 has been donated to Royal Brompton Hospital to fund research in accordance with the charity’s objectives.

Event income totalled £18,610 in 2023 which was made up from the annual Jansons rowing event, a silent auction and a reggae night.

Financial review

At 31st December 2023 the total of unrestricted reserves of the charity was £89,966. All reserves will be distributed in accordance with the charity’s objectives.

Reserves are held by the charity to fund research into Myocarditis. No level of reserves are required to be held

as salary costs are covered by trustee donations.

Once sufficient reserves have built, a donation will be made from the charity to The Royal Brompton Hospital for the purpose of funding their research into Myocarditis.

Structure, governance and management

THE CHARITY

Alexander Jansons Myocarditis UK is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, registered as a charity and governed in accordance with its constitution on 14th November 2019.

MEMBERS

The trustees have no beneficial interest in the charity.

Trustees meet at not less than six-monthly intervals to review the charity’s fundraising performance and activities in connection with its objects.

In line with the charity’s Constitution, the trustees are appointed for an initial period of four years and may be reappointed thereafter.

Apart from the first charity trustees, every trustee must be appointed by the Founder. If the Founder ceases to be a charity trustee, such appointment shall be by resolution of the charity trustees. Mr Andris Jansons

TO THE TRUSTEES OF ALEXANDER JANSONS MYOCARDITIS UK

I report to the trustees on my examination of the financial statements of Alexander Jansons Myocarditis UK (the charity) for the year ended 31 December 2023.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the trustees of the charity (and also its directors for the purposes of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 (the 2006 Act).

Having satisfied myself that the financial statements of the charity are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s financial statements carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act). In carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

1 Accounting policies

Charity information

Alexander Jansons Myocarditis UK is a private company limited by guarantee incorporated in England and Wales. The registered office is 13A Station Road, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, HP9 1NL.

1.1 Accounting convention

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the charity's governing document, the Companies Act 2006, FRS 102 “The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland” (“FRS 102”) and the Charities SORP "Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)" (effective 1 January 2019). The charity is a Public Benefit Entity as defined by FRS 102.

The charity has taken advantage of the provisions in the SORP for charities not to prepare a Statement of Cash Flows.

1.2 Going concern

The accounts are prepared on a going concern basis. As at the balance sheet date of 31st December 2023 the charitable charity had net assets of £89,966 which the trustees consider are sufficient. The only committed spending is for salaries, which is covered by ongoing donations from a trustee. Once reserves have built up a donation is made to the Royal Brompton Hospital.

1.3 Incoming resources

Incoming resources are included in the Statement of Financial Activities when the charity is legally entitled to the income and the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy.

1.4 Resources expended

Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category.

1.5 Taxation

The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

1.6 Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

Restricted funds are donated by a trustee and are to be used to cover the payroll costs. Any surplus in the year is transferred to unrestricted income.
