## **Objectives and Activities**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document|Para 1.17|**Advancing the education and support of**
**piano teachers to improve the quality of**
**piano teaching.**|
|Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.|Para 1.17 and
1.19|**The Piano Teachers’ Course has**
**managed to survive and flourish**
**because the tutors have worked hard to**
**ensure students can take the course**
**either in person or virtually. This has**
**not been easy and we have needed to**
**support them and this will continue.**
**We were incredibly fortunate to receive**
**a substantial bequest of £55,000 from**
**the Matossian estate.**
**This means that we are optimistic that**
**we can help the course continue even if**
**with fewer students, and that we can**
**help strengthen the Course by exploring**
**ways in which it can be accredited**
**making even the course even more**
**attractive to take.**
**A further challenge for us has been the**
**ABRSM’s decision to temporarily**
**withdraw one of their diplomas whilst**
**they redesign it: this has meant that we**
**have had to close one of our streams**
**reducing our number of students.**|
|Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit|Para 1.18|**We confirm that the trustees**
**deliberations were made with due**
**regard to the guidance issued by the**
**Charity Commission.**|

## **Financial Review**

|**Financial Review**|||
|---|---|---|
|Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period|Para 1.21|**£10,517 from the Matossian bequests**
**was spent supporting the Course’s fixed**
**costs (e.g., administration, computers**
**for virtual communications and**
**marketing). End-of- year cash held at**
**bank amounted to £46,884 in an interest-**
**bearing account.**
**Because the Matossian bequests**
**exceeded £25,000 in year ended 31**
**August 2023, accounts were prepared**
**per Charities Act 2011 and audited by**
**Iqbal Chowdhury FCCA. He reported “no**
**concerns” to trustees from his**
**examination, dated 27 September 2023.**
**Although the receipt of the bequest**
**means our finances look very good, the**
**reality is that we will need to look very**
**carefully at balancing how we support**
**the Course through a difficult period but**
**also ensure that whether accreditation is**
**a viable way of strengthening its**
**financial position**|
|Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held|Para 1.22|**The cash fund will be held to further**
**support administration and marketing of**
**the Course in future years, to boost**
**fund-raising and provide small bursaries**
**to students. Trustees also wish to seek**
**accreditation from a well-known musical**
**institution. This should help the Course**
**validate its role in UK piano education**
**and encourage more students to enrol.**|

|Reasons for holding zero
reserves|Para 1.22|**n/a**|

|The charity’s principal
sources of funds (including
any fundraising)|Para 1.47|**We need to be cautious about the future.**
**We will need to work hard to fundraise**
**over the next few years.**|

|A description of the principal
risks facing the charity|Para 1.46|**We need to develop our fundraising**
**capacity. We have been lucky and**
**benefited from the generosity of some**
**funders but recognise the need to**
**develop a steadier income.**|

## **Independent Examiner's Report to the Piano Teachers’ Course UK Trust**

I report to the charity trustees on my examinaon of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31[st] August 2023.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparaon of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charies Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examinaon of the charity’s accounts carried out under secon 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examinaon I have followed all the applicable Direcons given by the Charity Commission under secon 145(5)(b) of the Act.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

listed bodies, in secon 124 of the Charies Act 2011. However, as the charity’s gross income does not exceed £250,000, it has not been mandatory to assign an independent examiner from a listed body.

the examinaon giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounng records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by secon 130 of the Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records

I have no concerns and have come across no other maers in connecon with the examinaon to which aenon should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
