IER 0￿bar 2018 ## **FUTUREHOPE HERTFORD AND WARE** # **TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT FOR 1ST JANUARY TO 31 ST DECEMBER 2022** ## **CHARITY REGISTRATION NUMBER: 1186296** ## **Trustees** David Abbott Ian Tyler Mathew Barber ## **Objectives and Activities** The charitable object of FUTUREhope Hertford and Ware is ‘to provide an effective and accessible mentoring service in Hertford and Ware to young people between the ages of 11 and 18 inclusive, in order to reduce anti-social behaviour, social exclusion and criminal offending; to advance their education and development and enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals.’ The main activities of the charity are based in the towns of Hertford and Ware through the following programmes:  One-to-one Mentoring: meeting local young people for an hour a week, every week, for a year, to offer support, advice and someone to listen.  Outreach Work: both through our mobile drop-in youth centre, which goes out in the community and also through ‘detached’ work - walking around meeting young people where they are.  Schools Work: running educational sessions and/or group work sessions within the school setting.  Parents Courses: running parent courses based on Care For The Family’s ‘Time Out For Parents’ courses. ## **Achievements and Performance** This period proved to be a busy time for the team and the trustees would like to express their thanks to the team for all the work they have done. In the course of the year, the full-time Youth Work Co-ordinator left the charity and two new appointments were made for positions titled Youth Development Worker (full-time) and Project Manager (part-time). They joined the part-time Youth Work Co-ordinator in the core team. The charity is based in Pioneer Hall, Hertford which they took over from Hertford Youth Club (charity number 1173953) in 2021. The upkeep of the hall was an ongoing process through this year. The charity continued its one-to-one Mentoring scheme with referrals from schools and the local authorities. This work happened in schools, after school and in the community. The need for this sort of support for young people is greater than ever since the pandemic and the charity is keen to continue expanding mentoring work further. The Mobile Youth Centre, housed in a specially adapted Minibus continued to be used regularly on Friday nights at locations where young people gather, at galas and community events and in schools for lunch time sessions. The usage of and reaction to this aspect of our work from the young people was positive and encouraging. We maintained a good relationship with schools in both Hertford and Ware and they continued the process of referring young people to us for support. We ran a number of Parent Courses to provide advice, assistance and a place of mutual support for parents of teenagers. ## **Financial Review** The income and expenditure was as planned for this year. The charity continues to cover all costs for its work, with the figure for Receipts higher than that for Payments. The main revenue of income continues to be from local people and local churches and the charity continues to be grateful for their support in its work. The charity currently has two months of reserves; the charity trustees are aiming for 4 months and this will continue to be the target. ## **Public Beneft** In planning its activities, the Trustees have given regard to the Charity Commission’s Public Benefit guidance.
