TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT 2020/2021
Llantwit Major and Cowbridge Lions Club (CIO) was registered as a charity by the Charity Commission on 12th November 2019.
Currently, we have 5 Trustees and 3 are related to their positions within the club. They are: President: David Watson Secretary: John Wordley Treasurer: David Williams Lion member: John Andrew Lion Member: Colin Parsons
Llantwit Major & Cowbridge Lions (LM&C Lions) are part of Lions International. This organisation is recognised as one of the leading world organisations in helping local communities and the wider world community in times of crisis. The Lions mission statement is to be the global leader in community and humanitarian services. Currently, there are over 1.4 million members belonging to over 47,000 clubs in over 200 countries.
LM&C Lions plays its part to uphold the principles of being part of Lions International. This past year we have given grants/donations totalling over £8,000 to organisations/individuals such as: The Salvation Army, Marie Curie, Barnardo’s Cymru, Ty Hafen, The Samaritans, The Stroke Group, Wales Air Ambulance and helped many needy individuals/groups. The Covid-19 pandemic restrictions has had a huge impact on people’s lives. As well as having a medical impact on society there has also been an economic impact. People have lost jobs or had their income severely reduced. The consequence of this has been an enormous increase in the number of people using Foodbanks. LM&C Lions have targeted its fundraising efforts this last year to support Foodbanks as it was felt this was a very worthy cause that needed immediate help.
With the Covid-19 restrictions it has been really difficult for us to raise money in the usual ways. Every year we would be organising a town fair for the community of either Llantwit Major or Cowbridge. These events would help us raise money to give as donations to our worthy causes but unfortunately, with Covid restrictions, everything was cancelled. So we had to consider ways to raise money, whilst staying within the Covid-19 regulations.
Asking for donations to support the Foodbanks was successful and resonated with people. Facemasks were made and given to us which we gave out for a donation, shops had money boxes on their counters for donations and we held 3 open air awareness events and again people were generous in donating money towards our Foodbank Appeal. Additionally, we have a Monthly Draw where a £50 cash prize is given (£100 at Christmas). LM&C Lions hold funds in 3 separate bank accounts, the Charity Account, Activity Account and the Admin Account.
