PLYMOUTH PROPRIETARY LIBRARY ASSOCIATION President's Report for 2024 The PPL offered a wide range of events during 2024. The library hosted nineteen talks, two plays and two poetry evenings lone of which was part of the Plymoulh Poetry Festival). One of these talks was during Heritage Open Days when a selection of treasures from the Gollection went on display for both members and non-members to view. The PPL had Iwo signtficant donations in 2024. 'A Prophecy of Perillous [sic] Times, by Rev. Thomas Willes11656) was kindly donated by a local historian. Later in the year we received 'The Spirit of Dartmoor Tin,, a lavishly illustrated photo-essay book on Dartmoor with a tin stannary seal embedded in Ihe cover. This was given lo us by the author despite costing £3000. The PPL reiVed £250 from POP (Plymouth Octopus) for non-buffered tissue for wrapping items before placing them in archive boxes. The money was also used to produce jacket Govers to protect books both old and new. A new volunteer, Dr Emma Barrett-Brown, made a full inventory of the archival boxes containing rare books and PPL archives. Details on these are now on the PPL website. Sandra Greenhalgh was made an honorary member of the PPL in 2024 in recognition of all her work for the library over many years, not least her time spent finding and securing our current premises. Laura Horton, Judy Leigh and Chris Robinson were all made palrons in 2024. Details about them appear on the PPL website which was given a revamp in 2024. The PPL continued to rely on the generosity of volunteers and trustees in terms of their time and commitment. INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF PLYMOUTH PROPRIETARY LIBRARY ASSOCIATION FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2024 I report on the attached accounts of the Plymouth Proprietary Library for the year ended 31 December 2024 in respect of an examination carried out under Section 145, Charitie5 Act 20111.the Act 2011,1. Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the Charities Act 20111"the Act"). The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Act and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to.. examine the atcounts under section 145 of the Charities Act, to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners (under Section 14515llbll of the 2011 Act,. and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of Independent Examinerfs Statement My examination was carried out in accordance with general Dirertions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerninE any such matters. The procedure5 undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an aLJdit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair, view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. Independent examinerfs statement In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect.. the accounting records were kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act,. or the accounts did accord with the accounting records,. or the accounts did comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirernent that the accounts give a 'true and fair. view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of understanding of the accounts to be reached.
