The charfty dld not operate as a church durlr#J the pertod from its registration on 6 November 2019 to 3
MaTch 2021. Its Trustees agreed the charity "(Trust property held in connects'on wlthl Park
Avenue Baptlsl Church, Redcarf to acquire the operating activths. assets and Ilabilities of the18tter on
1 April 2021. Prior lo that date. the latter challty had served the communty as East Clèveland Bapust
Church 8nd this ch817ty took on Ihe ro￿ from that dale ￿th the name Redc8r Bapti%t Church.
The Churth is a member ofthe Baptist Union of Grpal Britain and Northem Baptist Association.

Redcar Baptist Church has existed In the twi for 95 years. During tr￿ Cowd pandemic we took on
new lease of Ife with Ihe expr8ss mission of changing the story of depriva￿On in our town, bringing
hope and transfomilng lives ty allevlaltng the symptoms and tackling the root causes of poverty.
Redcar has g dispTOPQrtionatsly high numb8r ol wards that srt in the l)ottom 10% for dapriwdlion in the
UK. Redcar Baplisi Church buil(ling sits acro66 the road from one of these and is well pla(*d to act as
hub of support.
Universal human needs are the needs of food arxl warmth. It is for thks reason that wo opened up Ihe
church buildlng Mon - Friday 9.'30am - 4:30pm week in week out {as well a5 several evenings) to act
S a hub of support. As part of th¢9 we p8thered The Message Trust to open Redcar Community
Grocery. vthere for an annu81 membership fee of £5 members can come up to 5 tlmes a week to fill
thelr baskets wtth £25430 worth of frosh prodL¢ce forlust £5 eath shop.
We're all about movkng people from wln8rability to grealer Independence, so every member is also
given access to a r8nge of oourses and clubs designed to meet the felt need5 of Ihe community, be it
needs r81eting to i801aUon & mentsl health or education & empowemient.

This affordable bul artisan coffee strKsp operates a pay ￿ forward system for those who can't afford food
or drink, provkles freè soup for our wann space and training opportunities for lob seekers. It has
te￿me a pkce that lackk8s isd8tion, Improves communrty cohesion and mentsl health and acts as a
wann space and Mel￿ng pot for the most vulnerable li ￿Jr community to access tha wider support we
offer through our wurses and dubs.

During 21Y24, we experienced several th8nges ¥￿thIn valued staff team. In instances where staff
members transitioned oul of th8lr roles, many chose to tak8 on voluntary posiiirMs witrin the chvrch,
oftgn with increased hours and no remuneration. in order lo further support the church's mission.
TN5 p8riod of transtuon also gave rt88 to n8w mlnlstrl8s and roles 8¢ross the organisati￿. One
signSflcant development W85 the establishment of the NGN Prcyecl, which Fvovided vltal fundlng for our
worf( wrth aS￿￿M seokers and refugees, enabling us lo serve a growlng number of indivifjuals in need
thin our o)mmunity. The projed also indudes support for children and families, creating new
opportunFb8s fcff staff recwitment to help achieve Its (*Ji8ctNes.
Further developments included chgnges in the m8n8gemenl of toth the grocery and the coffae shop.
These thanges introduced expeTlenced managomellt, Kthich in turn enhanced the qualty ond reach of
OLsr c(Jmmuntiy Serv[￿.
Addllionalty, we have been able to expand our fhrough the Eden Programme. This has involved
engaglng a nufflber of volunteers in the community allotment, ￿￿ere they grow a varl8ty of crops. The
initiative rK)t onty ￿c￿jrages o)mmunlty interaction but also provides fresh prixluce to share wsth
those we serve.
Our target group is defined by the need se8 on th& gr￿nd and so we tand to focus projects on
unmel needs.
Common Ground
The year 2024 has been an incT8dit48 journey of and deVelOpm￿t. not only in twrns of Ihe
buslnoss Itself, but also wthin oui ever e¥olwng and expanding t8am. By 't88m"

to the ekns of Common Ground Coffee Shop.. provlding a space for tralnlng and S￿lIS development for
those seeking eM￿O￿￿ent. offering second char￿S to those In need, and creating a sense of
camaraderi8 for individuals who may feel isolated or vh)0 slmplyw8nt to give back.
Common GroLtnd exists as a Wel￿mIng space for dl a Inje communtty hub %there people can come
together to relax. conned, and bulld relauonshlps. It 81so serves as a base for the many courses and
clubs we offer, whlch are (iesigned to respond direcuyto the expressed needs of our communlty.

social actlvit*s, ladies-only coffee momings, fflulbculturd bring-8nd-share gatherings, aftemoon leas.

the surrounding aroas. Thes8 activities have helped to w8l¢ome more individuals into the church
community, gently reduce the stigma often assouated churth, and sublly create oppx)rtunilies to
shtre God s wcfd.
The vhK)le team has completed thelr online Allergen & Intolerar￿e Awareness Tralnlng. The malorfty of
the 188m now knows how to use the Languago Translabon App, and we use St dally. This has been
incredibty helpful for us ￿1, as we work wlh indmduals from many different countries. have lrtlle or
no spoken English.

hearing their stories often shared over a cup of tea in the ￿fé. Many have ￿cOUnted experiences of
cthurch during their childhood that left a negative impact and contTlbuted slgniflcandy lo their decision
not to engage wth church lrfe until now. However, they frequenty express that Ihls place. feels
different, m(*e incluslve 8nd has bewn lo reopen their h8art5 to Jesus.
Just one story of how Common Ground has made a re81 dlfference would b8 that of Maria (name
changed). Maria began as a volunleer in the cafe: she wanled to work in a cafe, arnongst people who
spoke English, to get some hands<m experience, lo Improve her spoken English, and ultimatdy galn
paid em￿0yrnenL Over 8 few years, MarFa has b8coma an accomplished barista, can now
communicate much better smth customers and volunteers alike, 8nd in October 2024, Msria gained
part-time employment as Comfflon Ground Floor Supervisor.
This year has seen numer￿$ indimdual succsss stories from increased pers¢)nal confidence and the
development of new skills, to adapting approaehes. improving language abililias, and fomiing
meanlngful ffiendshlps. The Ibt Is extenslve.

It is remarkable to refi8¢t on ts ongoirYJ impact of the Community Grow h8r8 in Red¢ar. Since
opening in April 2021. During 2024. we have supported over 2,7W families, wth more than 40
hous8holds accessing fresh, affordat4e forxl eaGh day, Monday to Friday, beh¥een 9:30 am and 4:30
pm.
We are extremdy grateful to Fareshare. a1￿j wth our other fcrfxl supplier8 and donors. vthose
generous daity contribulions enable the Communlty Grocery to continue supporting familles
SU8taln8bly and affordabty. Thelr support plays a ￿tal role in helping households navwJale the ongolng

craft activities, family events during 5chod holidays, Toddler, Mother and Baby groups. sensory

In January crf 2024 an exerfing ngw pthership wa8 fonned belween Redcar Bapust Church and Soutrl
Bank Baptist Church ISBBCI. whereby our Strategic Minister (Mark) was re18ased 8nd called lo take
an oversight over both churche5. At tsjinning of 2024 South Bank Baptlst were in a tough spot
without a Minister and limited means to call a new Minister w5th any degree of suslainabilty. A core
elamenl of the vision of RedcaT Baptist to 'Change the Stcty of church decline, both plantir@ 8nd
replanting Churches lo see Ihem grow healthily and lo thiive. This was the inlenlion for our partnership
wilh Swth Bank BaptisL alongside a coll8ctiV6 Vision that through mutual pooling of resourws wa
could grow God's kingdom together.
2024 Saw the formation of this p8rtnership. the memberships of both churches embracing it in full.
Acro88 the year there have been a number of exoting deveiopments through the input of Redcar
Baptis( includlng a mi5Storory famity rekxatlng to the ￿ce empty rnanse in SoLrth Bank. Investment
into Ihelr preachlng and s8Nke leading team, and a plan to ralse funds to make much needed
improvements lo the fabric of their bullding.

In 2022 we tCK>k the first t8ntslv8 Steps of fomiing a partner8hip wth the Redcar Unrted Refonned
Church on Station Rd. 2024 has PAen a key year ￿ the partnership where the decision was made to
form a Local EL￿eniCal Pathership. a f(Mn of churd) partnership where ￿ or mcre denominatlong
come tC*Jelher to wate a singular, distinct 18gal 8ntity. Throughout the year a group of around 12
members of Redcar Baptlst Church have come fmyard lo form the Baptist half of this bleFYJ.
Working alongshle this group, partners from Redcar URC, Ihe Northem Baptist Assrx4alion and tha
Northem of the Untted Reformed Church, a pathway was mapped out wlth an antlc4pated stsrt
date of April 2025 for the LEP whith wll be ¢￿ted 'Redcar Housg of Worship..

Total reserves of the charity as at 31 December 2024 amount to £237.964, of %thlch unrestricted frpe
reserves (1.0. trM)se not tied up in Fixed Assets) amount to £202.574.
Offerings have be￿ higher than the Budgel set. We h8d been thankful for members IncreasiThJ their
giving and for Some to start giMThJ for the first tim8. We havo also received a number of one off
donatlon8 thls year frcffi 8 number of individuals and organisal1￿ts.
