The Trustees present their report and accounts for the perlod 01 January to
31 December 2024,
Strurturefft governance and management
Butterflie5 Dementia Support and Activities Group is a registered charity with the Charlty
Commlsslon, govemed by its Constitution, adopted Aprll 2019.
Membership of the charity is open to any individual or organisation interested In pmmotlng
the Obierts of the charlty.
Appointment of Trustees
Trustees are elected at the AGM (Annual General Meeting). The Board of Trustee5, when
complete. con515ts of at least three and not more than ten individuals, all of whom must be
rnember5 or authorlsed representatlves of the charlty.
Every Trustee after appointment or reappointment must sign a declaratlon of wllllngness to
att as a charity trustee before belng ellglble to vote at any meeting of the Tnjstees.
The Trustees who served dLJrlng the year, and to the date of slgnlng these accounts, are
Ilsted on page 3 of thls ￿pOrt.
Charitable Objects
The object5 of the charity are..
To provide support and rellef for carers and loved ones wlth dementia. within a safe
envlronment, offerlng attivities, motivation and *lmulatlon In order to maintsin as
full and varied a lifestyle as p055ible.
Risk Management
The Trustees have ultlmate responsibility for Identlfylng and managlng rlsk. The
maln risk to the organlsation Is the loss of funding to contlnue the operatlonal
runnlng of the charity. The financial position and level of re5erves1s reviewed at each
trustee meeting and funding applications are ongoing. For other areas, the charfty
has a risk management pollcy whlch Is revlewed regularly by the trustee5.

benefit reportlng In deddlng what actlvltles the charlty should undertake. Thls report
Illustrates the activltles undertaken to support the publlc beneflt requirement.

Actlvltles undertaken for the Publlc Benefit
Butterflies Dementia Support and Artivities Group hosts events, outings and holldays for our
members. We also support members who cannot attend groups, If needed.
Goln from stren th to stren th in 2024
During 2024 butterflies have achieved giving record levels of community support to varlous
groups within the Bamsley MBC area.
Our CO￿ groups which are held every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Frlday are
attended by people of varying dlsabilities including but not limited to;
People with dementia and their carers
Lonely and isolated Indlvlduals and recently bereaved
A number of people wlth special needs and thelr carers
A braln injury rehabilltatlon group
Able bodled people who Ilke what buttertlles has to offer
In addltlon to these core groups meetlngs we also held a monthly lunch club serving a 2
course hot meal, a monthly free buffet on Saturdays where family and frlends can come
along and enjoy soclal tlme wlth thelr loved or)es.
Vlslts to Parkway dnema have also been enjoyed.
All the above include5 live entertainment with tea/coffee and cakes.
Also once a month we have a vlsit to Barnsley bowl Includlng a hot meal and a game of 10
pln bowling followed by tea Icoffee and cake.
All these attivities are enjoyed by over 1,000 attendees per month with the purpose of
promoting health and mental wellbelng wlthln the communlty In a warm safe and secure
envlronment,
The charfty also dellvered 4 planned holldays In 2024 Sncludlng:
A 5 day holiday to Blackpool
A 5 day holiday to Potters all inclusive re5Qrt at Hopton
A 5 day holiday to Potters all indusive resort at Five Lakes Colche5ter
A 5 day turkey and tlnsel hollday to a Wamers hotel In North Wales

Which ensures these buslnesses benefit from all butterflles actlvltles.
The charlty was founded by project manager lulie Bmwn, has had Its 10th annlversary this
year and is continuing to go from strength to strength. Due to the contlnulng flnancial
controls implemented by the project manager and trustee5 in 2024, we achleved all of the
aims of maintaining the sustainability of the charity. 2025 promises to be another successful
year for the charity.

The trustees are responslble for keeplng proper accountlng records whlch dlsclose wlth
reasonable accuracy the flnanclal posltion of the charlty at any time and enable the trustees
to prepare financlal statements for each flnancial year. The trustees are also responslble for
safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taklng reasonable steps for the
prevention and detectlon of fraud or other Irregularities.

The trustees recognlse the need to keep ￿serveS at a level whlch wlll glve the charity
stablllty to enable It to contlnue to operate in the future and aim to keep a mlnimum of
£50,000 In reserve at any one tlme. The actual level of reserves held by the charfty on
31.12.24, ￿presented by unrestricted funds, was £128,104 (2023.. £116,272). The trustees
conslder the level of reserves at the year-end to be appropriate, given the short term nature
of the grant fundlng that supports the charfty. Any ex￿55 reserve will be spent to develop
and expand the charlty's attlvltles.
In addition to the General Reserve, the trustees have established a deslgnated fund for
future proj.ects and match fundlng. At the year-end the designated fund stands at £45,831
(2023.. £45,831).
The finandal statements are set out In pages 8 to 12. The Recelpts and Payments Account
shows a deflclt for the year of £23,813 (2023.. surplus of £59,334). The total funds of the
charfty at year-end stsnd at £188,158 {2023: £211,971). The reserves of the charity,
represented by unrestricted funds, stand at £128,104 at the year-end (2023.. £116,272).
The trustees declare that they have approved the report above.

I report on the accounts of the charlty, which are set out on pages 8 to 12,

The charity's trustees are responslble for the preparation of the accounts. The
charity'5 trustees conslder that an audlt is not requlred for this year under sectlon 144
of the Charltles Act 2011 (the Charities Art) and that an independent examination Is
needed.
It 15 my responslblllty to:
examlne the accounts under settlon 145 of the Charltles Art,
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Direttions given by the Charity
Commission (under sertlon 145(5)(b) of the Charltbes Act, and
to state whether partlcular matters have come to my attentlon.
Basls of Independent examlner's report
My examination wa5 carrled out In accordance wlth general Dlrettlons glven by the
Charity Commlssion. An examination Includes a revlew of the accounting records kept
by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also
Includes conslderatlon of any unusual Items or dlsclosures Sn the accounts, and
seeklng explana￿On$ from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures
undertaken do not provide all the eviden￿ that would be required in an audit, and
consequently no oplnlon Is glven as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fairf
view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In connettion wlth my examination, no materlal matters have come to my attention which
gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect..
accounting records were not kept In accordance wlth sectlon 130 of the Charitles Act,
or
the accounts do not accord with the accounting records
I have no concems and I have come across no other matters in connettlon wlth the
examlnatlon to which attention Should be (irawn in order to enable a proper understandlng
of the accounts to be reached

The financlal statements have been prepared on a Recelpts & Payments basls whlch
summarlses the movement of cash In and out of the organlsatlon. In thls context 'cash'
Includes cash equlvalents, such as bank accounts where cash can be readlly avallable to
pay debts as they fall due. Thls forniat of accounts Is avallable to non-company
charltles wlth gross annual Income of £250,000 or less.

Encome and expendlture has been analysed In the accounts uslng natural classlficatlon.
Funds structure
The charity maintalns an unrestrfcted fund which represents funds whlch are expendable
at the dlscretlon of the trustees In furtheran￿ of the objects of the charlty.
Unrestrlrted funds may arise from general donatlons. grants of a general nature, fees
for servlce provision and payment for service delivery contrarts.
Designated funds may be establlshed as the trustees see fit, to set aslde unrestrlcted
funds for future projetts or commltments.
Restrlcted funds may be provlded to the charlty for partlcular purposes and may only be
spent for the purposes for whlch they were glven. Any balan￿ remalnlng outstandlng
on a re5trlrted fund at the end of the year 15 carrfed forward as a balance on the fund,
unless permlsslon has been given by the funder to remove the restrfction on the balance
outstanding. Restricted funds wlll arfse from grants and donatlons glven to the charlty
for speclfic purposes.
2. Trustee remuneration, beneflts and expenses
There were no payments. remuneration or benefits to trustees during the perlod, other
than out of pocket expenses that were reasonably Incurred by trustees in promoting the
purposes of the Charity.
