## **Objectives and Aims** 

The charity will aim to promote and improve the access to quality education for disadvantaged children up to age 16 in Oyo State Nigeria. It will remain person-centred and concentrate on one area in Nigeria. Therefore, giving the best opportunity to empower the children who need it most in a set area. 

Even though education is compulsory, it is estimated that there are still 10 million Nigerian children between the ages of 5 to 14 who are not in full-time education. therefore, supporting out of school children or children at risk of losing their school place to remain in education poses a massive challenge. 

The service is to provide educational support for disadvantaged children by the means of buying educational materials, school uniform, school bags and school shoes. 

The education deprivation in western Nigeria if driven by a number of factors which include economic barriers and poverty. Education is fundamental for disadvantaged children to support them to climb out of poverty.  Children Matter Foundation exists to create a bright future, which will be full of opportunities for children that have been identified as requiring support through our assessment process within Oyo State, Nigeria. This will be done by providing them with a fully purpose-built school, that has up to date technology and useful school materials to promote their learning. Every assessment takes a holistic view of each child's life and some children may not need educational fees paid but require access to educational materials, which the charity can also support with. 

The charity will be focusing on Oyo State Nigeria. This is the area I grew up, whereas a child I was able to make friends, where I went to school, where I went to church and I was able to see the good and worse neighbourhoods. The market research that I have been able to conduct is by talking to teachers and headmasters in a number of schools in Oyo State, who were able to confirm how big this issue is and is an issue which is continuing to grow year upon year. 

Growing up attending church, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to volunteer and assist with Sunday schools. This provided me with experience of working with children to teach them the bible studies. In doing this, I was able to see how many children who came to Sunday school who so eager to learn and some of them were so clever but yet they were unable to attend state school simply because their parents were not able to afford this. Since then, after starting my social and community development course, it has relit 



a passion in me to give back to my community and support the disadvantaged children. 

As the charity is initially only focusing on one state in Nigeria we will be working closely with the schools within this area to let them know the purpose of our charity and what support we can provide. Schools will be able to refer children to the charity who they consider would benefit from the support services that we can provide. An assessment will be carried out on the child with a teacher or their parents present to determine what support that child may need. This could range from school equipment for lessons, school clothes to even having their school fees paid to ensure they remain in education. 

Children matter foundation aim to solve Global goal 4 which seeks to provide quality education for all. Many children are restricted from accessing quality education due to the Nigerian education system. Most schools owned by the government are underfunded. They are generally cheaper for a child to attend but they lack quality facilities and learning tools. Many government school building's are falling apart and the classrooms are not in good condition. The government teachers are not well paid and are usually on labour strike at least one 

a year, especially in Oyo Sate for the past 5 years. There are many private schools however, these are often more expensive. These schools are usually out of reach of Nigerian children, who live in poverty. The Nigerian education curriculum is based on universal basic education 

which is out of date and restricts the number of digital skills and learning. Therefore, my Idea aims to create a safe space for disadvantaged children through access to equal and quality education in the rural community in Oyo State Nigeria. 

All completed assessments will then be discussed monthly in the trustee's meeting to determine if the need of the child can be met by the charity. 

**Money has been spend especially during the Covid Period to support children in Ibadan Oyo State Nigeria who are unable to attend school due to school closure because of the pandemic**
