Claire Coates (former Trustee and Expansion Liaison Officer, Cambourne Village College), and Catherine Collins (PA to the Principal, Cambourne Village College), support and advise the Trustees. Charlie Rayner (Community & Events Operations Manager, The Cam Academy Trust) is directly involved with the building works and events on site; he liaises with the Trustees via Claire Coates.
During our 19 October 2023-18 October 2024 financial year, The Sixth Form Centre was handed over to The Cam Academy Trust and opened for full use by students in September 2024.
CVCCT continue to fundraise for cinema-quality projection and surround sound equipment to maximise the use of space as a community cinema. We were pleased to receive a joint £10,000 donation from Taylor Wimpey East Anglia and the Vistry Group.
A survey within Cambourne and the surrounding villages, conducted in late 2023-early 2024, including a drop-in session in Cambourne, to gauge interest in the community cinema project, received 386 responses, of which 97% reported being very interested or interested.
Plans for the 2024-25 financial year include:

Cambourne Village College Charitable Trust (CVCCT) and Cambourne Village College signing a memorandum of understanding to allow CVCCT unrestricted hire of the Lecture Theatre to run a community cinema on Friday evenings, and weekend afternoon and evenings throughout the year

Completion of a business plan

Funding applications, including A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet Social Value Fund and the South Cambridgeshire District Council High Street (Shared Prosperity) Fund

Formal request to Cambourne Town Council to assist with supporting a part-time employee, allowing the Cinema to break even in its first year of operation

Opening the Community Cinema in September 2025
Cambourne Village College Charitable Trust is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), charity number 1186156. The registered office is Cambourne Village College, Sheepfold Lane, Cambourne, Cambridge CB23 5FR.
Trustees’ amendments to the Constitution to give more detail to its charitable objects were submitted to the Charity Commission on 5 October 2024. These were rejected (in the 2024-25 financial year) by the Charity Commission on 9 January 2025, and the revised set of amendments overleaf were submitted on 1 February 2025. The Charity Commission’s approval was granted on 8 May 2025. 3. Object(s) The object(s) of the CIO are:

(a) The advancement of education for all regardless of ability in the communities served by Cambourne Village College, including:

a. access to facilities for the local community and working positively in partnership with that community for mutual benefit, and
-
b. advancement of Cambourne Village College’s international core principle by introduction of international dimension and diversity across the full spectrum of society, regardless of ability.

(b) In pursuance of the above primary object, to work in partnership with Cambourne Village College to create a volunteer-led, non-profit and accessible community cinema in the Cambourne Village College Sixth Form Centre for the public benefit of residents of Cambourne and the surrounding villages. The Community Cinema aims to:

a. advance arts, culture and heritage by offering a varied and diverse programme including live theatre broadcasts, which might otherwise be inaccessible for cost or transportation reasons;

b. provide accessible facilities for recreation and other leisure-time occupation in the interests of social welfare, bringing people together and combatting social isolation;
-
c. provide opportunities to watch and discuss cinema from around the world, thus advancing education in the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the arts of film and live theatre; and
-
d. provide volunteer opportunities to assist in improving employability.
