The Trustees have conducted a review of the major risks to which the charity is exposed and a risk register has been established.

Significant external risks to funding have led to the development of a strategic plan which will allow for the diversification of funding and activities. Internal control risks are minimized by the implementation of procedures for authorization of all transactions and projects.

Procedures are in place to ensure compliance with health and safety of staff, volunteers, children, parents and visitors to the school.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

Having met our original 6 year objective plan of 2016 - 2021, which included; building permanent structures to accommodate P1 to P7, constructing a borehole to supply clean drinking water, ensuring primary school children stayed and completed primary education, and ensuring more girls were registered and are attending primary education.

Willow School has since prepared two cohorts who sat their Primary Leaving Examination (PLE for P7) in 2019 and 2021. The pandemic of 2019 disrupted two years of education but our children received support through community education. The total number of children who completed primary education in that two years was 37 of which 10 were girls.

Section D                      Achievements and performance

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

The project has focused on addressing the revised 5 year objective work plan of (2022 – 2026).

We had a very successful community education event named Read Aloud Day - it was an event where parents entered a reading competition with their child and the best reader won prizes. Local leaders were involved and total attendance was approximately 400. Many parents said they are looking forward to next years’ event and will enter the competition with their child/children.

To reinforce our focus of improving teaching and learning, we organized a training day for the teachers and also a phonics training and teaching in Early Years ad Foundation Stage.

We also prepared our third cohort who completed their Primary leaving Examination (PLE) and sat the examination in November 2022.

We also had our annual child protection training at the start of the year. Other stakeholders in the community were also invited on the training day.

We have plastered the inside and outside walls of the boys and girls dormitory. We have also cemented the floors of both these buildings.

The boys’ dormitory can accommodate up to 40 boy and the girls’ temporary dormitory which is a library can also accommodate up to 30 girls.

Our two classroom blocks constructed in 2018/19 and the office block and teachers block were not plastered or cemented. Were able to install steel aluminium doors and windows, we also plastered the wall inside and outside this will now protect building from rain.

REN Intl does not have any policy financial reserves.

## **Details of any funds materially in deficit**

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

- additional information, standing orders and fundraising.

- where relevant about:

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

- how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;

- investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.

- Against the backdrop of limited resources and insecurities over funding, it has continued to be difficult to plan or develop services on a long term base. Nevertheless the charity, with the aid of sound financial management, the generous supporters through monthly standing order donations and regular fundraising projects have enabled REN Intl to continue its fundamental work in ensuring the vulnerable children of rural Northern Uganda receive an education. Standing orders remain our principle funding source as Covid 19 impact has meant schools have been in lockdown for most of the year 2020 and fundraising were restricted.

Our main aims and objectives are to raise funds to support the education of vulnerable children of Willow School. And most importantly ensuring the overall running cost were met including payment of teachers’ wages each month.
