Trustees’ annual report (including Directors’ report) for the period

From: November 2019 To: December 2020

Charity name: Go4Rohingya

Charity registration number: 1186123

Company number:

Objectives and activities

The object[s] of the CIO [are] [to advance education and relieve financial hardship amongst Rohingyan people seeking asylum and those granted refugee status and their dependents living (temporarily or permanently) in Myanmar and the surrounding area.’

The main activities during this period was the distribution of cash grants to widows and orphans in the camp, assisting members of the camp with health grants and medical treatment and providing hardship relief during the first lock down.

Public Benefit

In planning our activities we keep in mind the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit. The focus of our activities remains our projects which help marginalised Rohingya communities across the globe. Our projects benefit people through providing opportunities for education and relieving hardship by financial assistance.

The policy on grant making has been extended to all families in the camp as the lockdown in India was very sudden and rendered all families in the camp as vulnerable due to a complete ban of work and movement. New projects that were established was the advocacy for detainees in Saudi prisons, the application to the Defence of Children and the Widows and Orphans Grants.

During the lockdown we were very fortunate to have the assistance of the local Indian authorities.

A main achievement of the charity is the continued efforts during the lockdown. As a result the charity and its volunteers were able to assist during a very critical time.

The current trustees are Douaa Benkacem and Yeota Imam- Sharper. The charity trustees are responsible for the general control and management of the charity. The trustees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits. The trustees meet regularly and are responsible for decisions taken in relation to

running the Charity. The trustees have followed guidelines issued by the charity commission.

Risk Management

The trustees have assessed the risks the charity faces and have identified the major risks by area of activity and the nature of those risks. The trustees review risk regularly and strengthen their perspective on this issue through meetings. The trustees are satisfied that systems are in place, or arrangements are in hand to manage the risks which have been identified

Use of volunteers

Volunteers are an essential resource in G4R activities. Volunteers are involved in all of our activities and meet regularly at team meetings. We make the necessary checks to ensure volunteers carry the appropriate traits for the organization and understand the objectives

Achievements and performance

Future plans

The key strategies are to remain the same. The coming year will see a continued emphasis on our major projects, building an awareness of human rights issues as well as expanding projects related to legal humanitarian aid, children’s rights, and promoting Rohingya literary culture and heritage.

Message from the Director

I am delighted to say that it has been a wonderful privilege working with the Rohingya community. As an organisation we were very much at the inception when the global pandemic started. Our income was a modest one but necessary in making a difference. I would like to give a special thanks to our amazing volunteers, generous donors, and the charity commission for their ongoing support and guidance. Their input and resources area very important for our work with the Rohingya community. As a charity we honour Britain’s commitment to international development and supporting the Rohingya diaspora. The aim for the future is simple we aim to protect and support the most vulnerable members of Rohingya society. We hope to empower them so that they live successful dignified lives and can access doors of opportunities wherever they go.
