Music for Memories was deferred following Covid and relaunched in the Forest of Dean in March 2024. In 2025 the Trustees have tried to map a pathway for future growth whilst still serving the Forest of Dean. As a result we are starting to reach some parts of South Monmouthshire and wider Gloucestershire. This growth has been possible through the inspiring work of our Community Development Manager and a wonderful group of volunteers.

A diagnosis of dementia can create feelings of uncertainty or anxiety for the individual and their loved ones which is why the personalised nature of what we do is so important to the charity. Over the years I have observed that music can bring joy and peace even in the most challenging of circumstances, it is after all our only international language.

Every week, I witness the extraordinary impact that personal music can have on someone living with dementia or memory loss. I have seen people sing after long periods of silence, reconnect with family members through shared memories, smile, dance, cry happy tears and simply feel like themselves again — sometimes for the first time in many months.

What makes Music for Memories so special is that our work is never “one size fits all”. Every playlist is personal. Every conversation matters. Every individual story deserves time, dignity and compassion. Linda Fuggle-Jones

Music for Memories Charity provides personalised music experiences for people living with dementia, memory loss and cognitive challenges.

Using carefully curated playlists and easy-to-use music devices, we help reconnect people with memories, identity, emotion and moments of joy.

Our work supports individuals living:

Having relaunched the charity in March 2024 operating solely in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire we have seen significant development during 2025. We were able to employ a part-time Community Development Manager which has proved invaluable in promoting our service and building the partnerships which sustain what we do.

The Chair of Trustees has provided regular Support and Supervision for our Community Development Manager. Trustee Meetings have been both in person and on-line providing the strategic overview of the charity’s work.

Like many small charities we formed around a family passion to do something for those living with memory loss. The time has now come to extend this Trustee experience so that in a sustainable way more individuals can benefit from the service we provide. The Trustees have agreed that as our work expands, in 2026 we will seek to recruit new Trustees from South Monmouthshire and the wider Gloucestershire community.

Volunteers and their training are essential to what we do and during 2025 we have been able to produce a handbook outlining our work and the role of volunteers. Our Community Development Manger meets with them on a regular basis to ensure they feel supported in their work. We currently have 10 volunteers.

• The part-time employment of Linda, our Community Development Manager has been a positive and necessary step as the charity grows

• Gradual provision of Music for Memories into parts of Wales and further into Gloucestershire.

• New Volunteers joining us.

• Grants and donations – we have benefitted greatly from some amazing grants and donations, large and small. All of which have enabled us to grow.

• Support – we have received amazing support and encouragement from many individuals, companies and other charities. Special thanks to Martyn Joseph, Let Yourself Trust and Matt Bishop our local MP.

• Introduction of small speakers – these have been a great help for people who cannot tolerate a headset or are bed bound.

• More formal structures in place regarding DBS and Health and Safety.

• .

• Nearly 200 playlists and headsets now completed. Continued positive feedback from residents in the community and care home residents and staff.

• Ongoing evaluation of headset usage and speaker prototypes to enhance accessibility

• Development of Memory Card Game completed and is being used for community outreach with positive responses.

• Strong collaboration growing with Bridges (Monmouth) and the Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations, helping expand reach and support

• Chepstow/Caldicot Community Launch was held in September

• New logo, business cards, flyers, leaflets – printed and in circulation

• Website updated & new domain live – more professional online presence

• Winner of the Forest Voluntary Action Award Inclusion award.

• We have signed an agreement for a 12-month lease on a small unit to improve storage and production of playlists and headsets..

• Music for Memories has faced many technical and practical challenges. We have had some great resolutions from both our own volunteers and other organisations. Including REMAP Gloucestershire and a local resident called Tony who have helped with 3D printed adaptions to improve accessibility for individuals.

During 2025 we received several grants and donations that have enabled the steady growth of the Charity. This has enabled us to meet all our financial obligations with no outstanding debt. This steady growth has enabled us to employ the Community Development Manager 4 days a week which is something we would like to continue subject to finance. We ensure that we keep 3 months of salary and regular costs in reserve. This was the first year the Charity had sufficient income to require and Independent Examination and the Trustees appointment Mrs Jen Anderson. A copy of our receipts and payments accounts is attached along with her signed declaration.

Music for Memories Charity holds no funds as Custodian Trustee.
