## **Music for Memories Mid Sussex Annual Report and Accounts 2020** ## **Aims and Purposes** Music for Memories Mid Sussex aims to provide personalised music headsets to those living with memory loss, loneliness or other needs across the community in order to bring joy and comfort to those receiving them. Music for Memories Mid Sussex works on a basis of no charge per headset in order to ensure all who need to benefit from them are able to. ## **Objectives and Activities** Music for Memories Mid Sussex aims to deliver approximately 50 headsets per year to applicable individuals and support local care and residential homes in developing personalised playlists for residents. This is best done through face-to-face meetings as development of a relevant headset can take several hours and depending on the recipient may need to be done over a number of smaller time blocks. ## **Achievements and Performances** In 2019 Music for Memories Mid Sussex put together and distributed over 50 headsets to relevant individuals and the intention had been to replicate and expand on this in 2020. Partnerships were being developed with a number of organisations and care homes across Mid Sussex at the start of the year with events and meetings scheduled. The onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic meant that virtually all of our channels to put together a headset were closed down to us from March. The success of the headsets has always been based on face-to-face contact and sometimes several hours of experimentation to identify the correct selection of music to include. The process is personal, and at times emotional, for the participants so the ability to interact fully is important. The organisation has had to switch its tactic to developing playlists virtually and this has limited our reach significantly. In 2020, 10 playlists and headsets have been put together and distributed across the region. ## **Volunteers** Music for Memories Mid Sussex runs entirely on a volunteer basis and the trustees would like to thank those who support us in the work we do, with particular thanks to Jackie Beckett, who looks after the financial administration of the organisation, and Stephen Beckett who has been of invaluable in the setting up of our website. ## **Financial Review** Prior to Music for Memories Mid Sussex being awarded its CIO status our finances were cared for by Sheddingdean Baptist Church in a designated account. This money was transferred into our own bank account in March 2021 once we had received our CIO number and been able to set up our own bank account. The Covid-19 Pandemic has had a significant impact on the finances of Music for Memories Mid Sussex. The trustees took the decision to purchase a laptop at the onset of the pandemic to allow some virtual playlist development to continue and this will also be of use to the charity in the coming years. At the end of 2019 one of our original supporters, Matthew Gallagher passed away suddenly and the organisation was honoured to be selected as on the beneficiaries of donations made in his memory. This money was received in April 2020 and has formed the bulk of the income for the charity in this calendar year. The pandemic has meant the fundraising has not been possible for the charity and we anticipate this issue to continue into 2021. Due to the relative infancy of the charity our outgoings are fairly minimal and so despite our inability to fundraise in this calendar year we carry forward a balance £6876.27. In September we received an unexplained payment of £122 which was sent to us in error by the bursar of Holyport School. After several enquiries working out where this money had come from the error was uncovered and returned to them in November.
