Introduction
Bromley Relief in Need (BRiN) continues to help the poor of Bromley starting from 1631 when the Bishop of Rochester made a donation for the benefit of the poor of Bromley Parish Church. We now cover the whole of the London Borough of Bromley and not just within the Boundaries of the Parish of Bromley Parish Church. The vicar of Bromley Parish Church continues to be the chair of Trustees.
Trustees report for the period ending 31st December 2022
Our objectives are
To provide relief, either generally or individually, to persons resident in the London Borough of Bromley who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress.
We do this by providing essential items to the poor of Bromley Borough. To ensure that the need is genuine, we only accept referrals from professional third-party sponsors such as social workers, healthcare professionals, religious leaders or another charity.
We received 103 (126) applications for support in 2022 but deemed only 51 (58) to be sufficiently in need to warrant acceptance or were referred to other charities, such as Bromley Brighter Beginnings and Bromley Homeless Starter Packs. We continued our partnership with the Beckenham Parochial Charity.

Trustees
The trustees meet about 4 times a year and have frequent informal email communications to ensure timely response to applications. They have overall control and responsibility for policy and major decision making. They are unpaid and make no expense claims. There are no employees or volunteers. There are also no overheads. We believe that our efforts ensure that our charity works to the public benefit in accordance with the Charity Commission Guidelines.

Financial
Our income rarely met expenditure of the last few years of the charity, with the exception of the accounting period from 19 October 2019 to 31 December 2020. This continued into 2022 with a loss of £3,630 from an income of £5273 against an expenditure of £8903. The restricted fund for victims of domestic violence was exhausted and closed. We continue to support Bromley resident victims of domestic violence from our general fund.
The accounts have been prepared by a trustee, Edwin Tree, and independently verified. They have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis.
