The Cornpany was set up to ￿place an unincorporated tharity of the same name {210455) in 2019 and was registered by the Charity Cornmission for England and Wales on 1 October 2019 bul has only recently been able to stsrt trading because the prO￿sS of selb.ng up bank accounts for the new company was only completed in 2022. The application to set up new accounls with the bankers of the old charity were interrupted by the COVID 19 pandemic lockdowns in 2020. The bank lost the relevanl documents and resolutions lodged with them and the stsff originally involved had apparently left the banL We have now recovered the position with further applications lo the bank and arrangements were finalised in 2022.The Cornpany started trading on 1" October 2022. This set of ac(x)unts was approved by the twstees on 2￿ September 2023 for subrnission to the Independent Examiner, Companies House and the Charities Commission. During this period work continued on the production of four volumes wilhin the Wlnchesler Studies series. Substantial progress was made on Volurne 3.1 Prehistoric and Roman Winchester which was delivered to our publishers. Archaeopress Ltd. in autumn 2022 and will be in print by the end of 2023. Substantial progress was made on Volume 4.1 The Anglosaxon Minsters, Volume 51 The Brooks and Volurne 6.1 Winchester Castle which should be ￿dY for publication in 2024 and 2025. Work continued on digilisation of the volumes of Winchester Studies that have already been published and the first of these were available in 2022 wtth further volumes to be available in 2023 and 2024. The nurnber of Friends of Winchester Sludies (FOWS) remained stable during the year. and they continue to support the work of the Trustees and help raise aWa￿nesS of that worL Two Friends Newsletters were published during 2022. A ￿￿]0r preoccupation of Ihe Boardrrrustees during the period was the raising of further funds to enable the work of publishing Winchester Studies to continue. The fundraising subcommittee has continued to be active within the limitations imposed on us and has generated some fvnding from new SoUr￿s. The main Sour￿ of income during the period were grants from Ihe Linbury Trus( Hampshire Archives TrusL the Clarke Family Trust, Winchester City Council and Hampshire County Council. Individual donations were made by Rupert Nabam). Nigel Mthlair S￿)tt and Katherine Barclay. logether with smaller contributions from the 'Friends of Winchester Studies. and the Gift Aid tax relief on those donations where appropriate. Winchester Excavations Committee Financial Statements for the period ended 31 March 2023 Report of the Independent Examiner This report on the accounts of the Winchester Excavations Committee for the period ended 31$1 March 2023 is in ￿spect of an examination under S.43 of the Charities Act 1993. Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner The charitys trustees are responsible for the preparation of the aGcounts in a¢¢ordan¢e with the Charities Acts 1993 and 2011 (Ihe Acts"). The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 43(3) of the Charities Act 1993 and that an independent examlnation is needed. It is my responsibility to: Examine the accounts (section 43(3){a) of the 1993 Act); Follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (section 43(7){b) of the 1993 Act and section 145(5)(b} of the 2011 Act); State whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of Independent EXamine￿S report My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual iterns or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as Trustees conceming any such matters. The Pro￿dureS undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequenlly I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts. Independent Examinerfs statement In connection with my examination. no matter has come to my attentlon: 1. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements have rK)t been met: To keep accounting records in accordance wtth section 41 of the 1993 Act and the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with section 130 of the 2011 ACL or 2. To which. in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
