park. The children had a scavenger hunt. The local PCSO attended the walk. **Comments made by the people who attended the event** “ _Such a wonderful day at the nature trail in Jersey Park, lots of delighted children getting closer to nature and hopefully picking up some life-long knowledge about the natural environment. Huge well done to you all it was a pleasure to be a part of”. “This truly is community spirit at its very best, I take my hat off to all involved and participating parents/children. Huge well done”_  70 people attended a Christmas event. The FoJP Members dressed up in festive outfits. A Ukulele Band played Christmas songs and everybody sang along to the popular tunes. Refreshments were served. Santa made an appearance to the delight of the children. All of them went up on the stage to see him and receive their gift from the FoJP.  The FoJP participated in a Play Sufficiency Workshop arranged by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council. The aim of the workshop was to develop an action plan for Play Sufficiency. Three members attended and actively participated in the development of the plan  A Community Art Project saw 4,500 poppies made by the community, from recycled plastic milk bottles. The poppies were displayed over Brunel’s bridge in the park. A team of SKY engineers along with many members of the community helped to install the poppy display. The project attracted local and national media attention with the public visiting Jersey Park to see the display. It truly demonstrated the community working together.  Successful bids realised funding from the Building Safe and Resilient Communities- Innovate & Create Fund, enabled the FoJP to purchase equipment to improve facilities at community events, and gardening

||activities. In addition to this 16|
|---|---|
||benches were purchased 5 of which|
||were ‘Happy to Chat’ benches, along|
||with 3 picnic tables. In addition 2|
||benches were donated by the Briton|
||Ferry Community shop. The benches|
||have made a signifcant improvement|
||to the park. Positive feedback obtained|
||from the community showed that|
||people were very pleased with the|
||benches and that if they saw a person|
||sitting on a ‘Happy to Chat’ bench, they|
||would stop to say hello.|
||The FoJP were commended for their|
||work at the CVS awards evening|
||during Volunteer Week|
||We have been actively involved in the|
||Welsh Government’s Building Safe and|
||Resilient Communities Project.|
||In March 2020 Wales went into|
||lockdown and all FoJP activities ceased.|
||Gardening activities recommenced in|
||April 2021 with members maintaining|
||Covid rules.|
||In September 2019, Year 3 pupils from|
||Ysgol Carreg Hir (YCH) wrote to the FoJP|
||with their ideas for the park. This|
||proved to be a catalyst for partnership|
||working.  A Biodiversity group was|
||formed involving FoJP, YCH pupils,|
||NPTCBC Biodiversity Department, and|
||Natural Resources Wales (NRW).  By|
||January 2020, a Biodiversity plan had|
||been developed. Much of what was|
||planned has had to be placed on hold|
||due to the pandemic though two key|
||projects have been achieved during|
||2020/21.|
||Thanks to the support from NRW, the|
||wildlife pond in the park has been|
||refurbished. The area has been made|
||safe with the installation of fencing and|
||now also includes pond dipping|
||platforms for use by the schools|
||The pupils of YCH with the help of two|
||members of the FoJP who are talented|
||artists, have painted a mural ‘_A walk_|
||_through the seasons’_for the play park.|
||The children wished to show the beauty|
||of the park through the seasons of the|
||year by depicting nature and the|
||industrial history of the park. They|

They are extremely proud of their achievements and an unveiling ceremony is planned for the 14[th] September 2021.
