Other Achievements and performance Despite the awful weather in 2023, with a deluge ofwater and mud. another summer school took place at Jan Jan Bureh Nursery and was hailed a Suc￿sS. Para 120 In November. Caroline Wilson from Be Global, confirmed th8t sho would only provide donations for Jan Jan Bureh Nursery through School Support Gambia (SSG). SSG is a much larger charity than Friends of Jan Jan Bureh (JJB) Nursery but with broadly similar aims and values. already supporting several nurseries in the Gambia. Our Liaison Offi￿r met with Lady ￿'ra Dalton, one of the Trustees of SSG, to discuss the future inclusion of our Nursery in the evenl of a problem with either funding or management. SSG was willing to meet with JJB Nursery management committee to explain their proposed role in the organisalion, support and training of staff. Unfortunately, JJB Nursery made the decision lo renydin independent and to S81f- fund the Nursery. They refused io meet with presentalives of SSG. who magnanimously extended Ihe offer for 2024- 25, however it would not remain open ended. The Trustees of The Friends of JJB Nursery wrote a lettef to both senior members of the management team (Tida and Saiba) to notify Ihem of SSG'S interest and Be Global's change of direction regarding donations, indicating that the Trustees felt the best oplion for the future sustainability of JJB Nursery lay with the charity School Support Gambia. The Nursery Management Committee refused lo sign across the Nursery to SSG and so donations from Be Global to Friends of JJB Nursery were suspended. The JJB Nursery management commlttee Issued a statement: 'As a community Nursery, the Management Committee refers to work with eo le from the same

region rather than others we don'l know,. The Committee took on the management of the school from DeGember 2023. School Support Gambia made arrangements for when the money to run JJB Nursery was no longer enough lo sustain it. The Nursery continued to be run by the committee, but staff retention continued to be an issue. The fees were increased slightly to help offset costs.
