## **Objectives and Activities**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document|Para 1.17|The object of the Charity is to provide a
recreation ground for the benefit of the
inhabitants of the Parishes of Bamford and
Thornhill and the surrounding area or for
the public at large for recreation or other
leisure time occupation with the object of
improving the condition of life of the
inhabitants.|
|Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.|Para 1.17 and
1.19|The main activities of the charity is in
maintaining access to the grounds, and in
maintaining the quality and safety of the
recreation ground facilities for its users. It
also engages in such fundraising activity as
required to support this and the future
financial viability of the charity.|
|Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit|Para 1.18|The charity was incorporated as a CIO in
October 2019 with a new constitution
substantially based on the Charity
Commission’s model CIO constitution. With
regard to the charity’s constitution and its
activities it meets both the ‘benefit’ and the
‘public’ elements of the guidance.|

|Policy on grant making|Para 1.38|This charity is not a grant-giving body|
||Para 1.38|The charity’s purpose in the provision of an
outdoor space for recreation and physical
activity purposes, is entirely social|

|Policy on social investment
including program related
investment||investment focused and is reflected in its
constitution. In this regard its Trustees
conduct themselves in keeping with social
investment principles as set out in the
constitution.|
|---|---|---|
|Contribution made by
volunteers|Para 1.38|In addition to the volunteer activities of the
trustees, the charity has regular volunteer
support from the community with a daily
security rota (opening-up and locking),
grass cutting and litter-picking. From time-
to-time the charity calls on additional
volunteer input from the local community to
help with larger pieces of work, which is
always well supported.|

## **Achievements and Performance**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.|Para 1.20|The activities of the charity over the last
year reflect its core purposes in maintaining
the quality and safety of the facilities,
notably grass cutting, refreshing the
playground bark surfacing (often our most
costly single item of regular annual
expenditure), fencing repairs and new
signage. Also, in collaboration with Hope
Valley Climate Action circa 600 trees were
planted within the grounds.
Sadly, the facility is prone to frequent acts
of vandalism, and with the location being
some significant distance from the
residential centre of the village it has been
difficult to maintain an adequate level of
surveillance. Therefore, after much debate
the trustees agreed to the installation of a
CCTV surveillance system, and this
became operational in recent months.
Within a short space of time this has
already helped to identify acts of vandalism
and anti-social behaviour.
Unfortunately, this first full year of operation
of the CIO has been significantly affected
by covid-19 restrictions and lockdowns that
have curtailed the normal pattern of usage
and group / team-based activities in
particular. On the other hand, local
residents have made much use of the
grounds during this time as accessible
space for daily exercise – it is a large area
(circa 11 acres) allowing for significant
social distancing and safe family activities.|

|---|---|---|
|Achievements against
objectives set|Para 1.41|The charity’s core purpose in maintaining
the physical infrastructure of a local
recreation ground facility generally defines
our objective activities. In addition to this
we aim to raise sufficient funds to cover the
annual revenue requirements of
undertaking such activities. We work to a
general principle of not charging local
residents for use of the grounds as
individuals or families, although we may
request a contribution in relation to
exclusive or regular usage (such as by the
football team). In order to cover the bulk of
our expenses we rely on attracting larger
external events, such as mass-participation
activities. The ground is well located in the
national park for adventure type
competition events. Generally, we have
been reasonably successful with this, with
the exception that during this last year
covid-19 restrictions have completely
curtailed such activities, which has hit our
fundraising ability badly (yet our expenses
have been much the same).|
|Performance of fundraising
activities against objectives
set|Para 1.41|Refer to the previous response above.
Although we have had no fundraising
income this last year, we have been
grateful to have benefited from the
government’s covid-19 support grant
schemes.|
|Investment performance
against objectives|Para 1.41|The charity does not have investment
objectives|

|Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held|Para 1.22|The CIO is the landowner for circa 11 acres
of land known as Bamford with Thornhill
Recreation Ground, and the buildings and
infrastructure contained therein. The
trustees are mindful of the risk of
unforeseen incidents or repair &
replacement requirements that could result
in a significant financial outlay impact. The
trustees therefore aim to maintain sufficient
financial resilience to be able to cope with
such events.|

|The charity’s principal
sources of funds (including
any fundraising)|Para 1.47|In a normal year the principal source of
funding is from hire of the grounds by large
external events organisers. This is
supplemented by small contributions from
the local football team, the Parish Council
caravan club rallies and by small donations.|
