The President, Secretary and Treasurer are automatically appointed Trustees after being elected to their positions at the club’s AGM.

## **Objectves and Actvites**

Lions clubs enable service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward. Clubs endeavour to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding.

## **Objectives**

The Objects of the Club are such purposes as are exclusively charitable in England & Wales, including in particularthe advancement of citizenship by

- promoting the principles of good citizenship;

- encouraging members to take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community;

- providing a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by members;

- encouraging service-minded people to serve their community without personal reward

- encouraging the promotion of high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavours;

- supporting youth to develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals;

- promoting the Voluntary Sector for the public benefit by associating with local authorities in a common effort to advance education and provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation to improve the conditions of life of people in local, national and international communities;

- promoting volunteering;

- the relief of poverty and the relief of those in need in particular by providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief;

- the advancement of health or the saving of lives by preventing avoidable blindness, assisting disabled people to lead independent lives or helping to prevent or manage health issues;

- promoting for the benefit of the public the conservation protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment andpromoting community participation in healthy recreation.

The clubsnormal activities involve holding fund raising events, attending, and supporting events in the town and local area with the purpose of raising funds for the club’s ‘Charity’ account, support others within the local, national and international community and to promote the Lions ethos.

## **ACTIVITIES, ACHIEVEMENTS, PERORMANCE AND PUBLIC BENEFIT**

In the year 1[st] July 2024 to 10[th] April 2025

- Trauma Lions (Soft toys in the form of a Lion) Delivered to Scunthorpe hospital Disney Ward.

- Platform improvements at the Barton railwaystationthrough the Station Adoption Scheme

- Sapling Planting to offset carbon footprint of the beer festival

- Firework Night

- Picnic in the Park

- Trip to Brigg Garden centre

- Santa’s Sleigh

- Lions on the Line (Railway Trip)

- Club members have held meetings on the predominantly the 2[nd] Mondays of the month

The club held a successful Beer Festival in June 2024. This was our biggest fundraising event of the year.

The firework display is an event provided for the town people to allow a safe and inexpensive way to participate in the tradition and it is not seen as a profit making event. Due to lower membership numbers our Santa’s Sleigh event was completed in partnership with another local charity group.

Due to low membership available resource has been significantly reduced. Partnership working with other local charity and volunteer groups has enabled us to continue our main activities. However, a long term effect is that we have mothballed our catering unit. High insurance costs also had an impact in making this decision.

We have worked with Barton Rotary Club, Barrow Meridian Rotary Club, Ropewalk Volunteers, Friends of the Barton Line and local businesses in sharing support and staffing of events and activities.

## **INCOME AND EXPENDITURE – YEAR ENDING 10 thApril 2024**

Barton Lions are very grateful for donations made by the Town towards our public firework display (£2K).
