## **Trustees Report for Jarrow Musical Theatre Company- Registered charity number 1185706 from 02.06.21 – 31.5.22**

The decision to gain charitable status in 2019 was made in order to raise much needed funds from grants, matched giving and gift aid.

Following from the relaxation of restrictions and changes to the rules concerning Covid 19 and social distancing, we were able to proceed planning our productions for 2021/22, albeit tentatively at first.

The trustees are mostly committee members elected by the charity’s membership. They meet every month to plan the charity’s activities and review its finances.

The trustees are listed below:

Mr Lawrence Clark

Mr Grayson Wood

Ms Freda Carney

Mrs Sara J Reay Hindson

Mr David Bruce

The trustees budget carefully for each production and obtain several quotes for costumes, scenery, theatre hire, sound and lighting, before going ahead with a show. We do not have any debts.

During lockdown we met regularly as a group via Zoom. This helped to combat isolation, loneliness and to promote better mental health. Relaxation of Covid 19 rules on social distancing allowed us to meet regularly, face to face, and work towards fulfilling our societies aim: We aim to bring affordable theatre to our community in the Jarrow area. Usually each year, approximately 2800 local people benefit from our aim.

As we felt there was insufficient time to allow us to successfully mount and stage a pantomime and with the uncertainty regarding whether

audiences felt safe returning to large indoor gatherings, we decided to work towards a concert entitled “Lockdown Voices”. This was performed in November 2021 and was well received.

Our production of Mel Brook’s Young Frankenstein in May 2022 was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.

We then started rehearsals for our Platinum Jubilee Concert and began planning out 2022 pantomime “Dick Whittington”.
