**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

Educating and informing the public about industrial archaeology is the primary purpose of the Society. The programme of fortnightly lectures and visits, open to all, fulfils that function. There are often visitors to the Society’s events.

For preservation of heritage, the trustees keep a close watch on planning applications which may affect industrial heritage, and they submit responses to local authority planning departments.

The Society is frequently asked for advice and information by members of the public, and by virtue of having a comprehensive archive in a selffinanced archive store, is happy to respond where possible.

The Society is also consulted by various researchers and local authorities on matters of IA concern.
