The holding of**<br>**lectures and fieldtrips, open to all, fulfils**<br>**that function. There are often visitors to**<br>**the Society’s events.**<br>**For preservation of heritage, the trustees**<br>**keep a close watch on planning**<br>**applications which may affect industrial**<br>**heritage, and they submit responses to**<br>**local authority planning departments.**<br>**The Society is frequently asked for**<br>**advice and information by members of**<br>**the public and is happy to respond where**<br>**possible. The Society is also consulted**<br>**by various researchers and local**<br>**authorities on matters of IA concern.**|
