TRUSTEES REPORT

The charity was set up in 2019 to purchase, maintain and support usage of the open space of Naunton Recreation Ground for the public benefit of the residents of Naunton and the surrounding area, with the object of providing opportunities for formal and informal sport and outdoor recreation that improves health, well-being and social welfare.

The trustees of the charity as of 31st December 2023 were:

John Stephen Evans (Trustee) Christopher Charles Goll (Chair from 30th Sept 2023) Charles Neil Maurice Hanks (Trustee) Marcus M Courtney, (Chair resigned 30th Sept 2023)

The address of the charity is:

Vine House Naunton CHELTENHAM Gloucestershire GL54 3AA

Details of the charity!s structure and management can be found within its constitution, available by contacting the trust by email at nauntonrectrust@gmail.com.

The charity’s initial objective has been to purchase the freehold title of the Naunton Recreation Ground from St Andrew!s Parochial Church Council. The Recreation Ground itself has limited financial value as it is currently leased to the Naunton Village Parish Council, with 90 years of the lease still to run. However, the objective is for the ground to be kept in perpetuity for the local residents, along with the local investment in fixed structures on it, such as the cricket pavilion and the children’s play area.

The approval of the sale of the freehold title by the Parochial Church Council trust has been granted.

However, for the Church to go forward with the proposal, the proposal needs to be reviewed by a Diocese of Gloucester Trust. Over the last year, for bureaucratic reasons within the church, the proposal has not been placed before the appropriate Diocese of Gloucester Trust for consideration.

Therefore, the sale of the recreation ground to the charity has been significantly delayed and is yet to take place. The charity trustees trust that the Church will find a way around their current internal standstill and that the purchase will go ahead.
