Trustees’ report
It has been another busy and successful year for the hall.
Personnel
The committee continue with the same personnel as last year with Helen Bateman as Chair, Trevor Hood as Treasurer and Trudi Cullum as Secretary. Trevor and Trudi really do have the most timeconsuming roles; the Chair and other trustees - Clive Clark, John Fennelly, Janice Watkins and Ferg Ranson - are very grateful for their efforts.
The Chair personally thanks all the trustees for their hard work and dedication. She acknowledges all have busy lives, be it paid employment, other charity/voluntary work or caring roles. Everyone gives their time free of charge and she commends their community spirit and thanks them for being a fantastic group of people to work alongside.
She confirms that John Fennelly has decided not to remain on the board of trustees but is extremely grateful for all his work over the years. Julia Allen continues her role as the representative from the Parish Council and the trustees thank her for her input and support. The board continues to work closely with the Castle Hedingham Club.
Ann Edney and Mike Palmacci continue as Hall Manager and Caretaker and the trustees thank them both for their hard work and all they do to keep the hall running smoothly and efficiently.
Hall Users
The hall has never been busier. Michelle Brazier continues to run 9 HIIT classes across the week and the trustees are extremely grateful for her significant contribution to the full timetable.
Other regular users include the Art Club, Women’s Group, Tea Club, Gardening Club, Pilates, Filling Station, Heritage Society and Falls Prevention Exercise Class. In December, Castle Players gave performances of Hansel and Gretal and Rod Stokes organised several folk concerts throughout the year.
Hell’s Bells Morris now use the hall as their main rehearsal venue over the winter months. They have been approached by the East Anglian Parkinson’s Disease Society who are looking at different activities that might benefit those with early onset Parkinson’s. Hell’s Bells are offering a taster session at the hall for Society members. This is very much the kind of project the Trustees are keen to support.
The hall is also regularly used for private hire at competitive rates.
Memorable events last year included the VE Day celebrations, the return of the St James Fair and the first ever Hedingham Folk Day which was a great success. Jane Laken from Kinder Essex Braintree organised a wonderful tea party for the community with money donated from the St James Fair.
The Chair extends a big thank you to all users who help make the hall a thriving part of the community.
Facilities
The kitchen is in the process of being upgraded with a new fridge and a new cooker will be installed in the near future.
Finally the Chair was delighted to announce that the new sound system has been installed in the hall. A lot of time and consideration went into this project. She thanked all the trustees, particularly Ferg Ranson. The new system is simple and easy to operate and produces top quality sound. Thanks to Marks Tey Radio for understanding the brief and installing exactly what was required; the Chair is sure all hall users will be very happy with this upgrade.
